Arizona Republic - An ESPN report tagged Suns President and General Manager Bryan Colangelo as the top target in Toronto's general manager search, but Colangelo said he fully plans on remaining in Phoenix.

ESPN reported Sunday night on NBA Fastbreak that Colangelo was not only the focus to replace Raptors interim General Manager Wayne Embry but also that Phoenix granted Toronto permission to talk to Colangelo.

Suns Managing Partner Robert Sarver declined comment.

"I'm under contract with the Suns and my primary focus is on Phoenix Suns basketball and making this team a championship contender," Colangelo said. "I'm aware of the report, but I'm in no position to remark on another team's business.

"I have every intention of remaining with the organization. My focus is on the task at hand and the Phoenix Suns doing well."

Colangelo is the reigning Executive of the Year and is considered a strong candidate to repeat. Toronto's GM spot became available when the Raptors fired Phoenix native Rob Babcock last month.

"The surprising part is the Suns are willing to let the Toronto Raptors talk to Colangelo," ESPN's Ric Bucher said on the air Sunday. "That is the most stunning aspect of it, when you look at what Colangelo has done." [READ]

if we're going to throw around money like nobody's business, then give it to the guy that'll run the ship.

What made Colangelo great?

He had room to manuver. Colangelo if anything gets some hand to when its time to renew.

Isiah stays on the payroll until Anucha is no longer relevant.

djsunyc - and by your standard THAT next guy, whoever he is, will get the boot in two years if the Knicks are not in the Eastern Conference second round.

That was your timetable, right?

Anything more is adding time to the schedule you set for Isiah ce n'est pas?

What is the point of a revolving door?

Layden got four years. He walked a careful and expensive treadmill. Do any of us REALLY know how to appreciate jazz?

actually they wouldve been WAY over the payroll and unable to get nash etc.... if they didnt dump Marbury and Hardaway at a cost of 140mm$ on the Knicks. He had the cahones to take an Amare Stoudemire while our guy bypassed a hS player with huge Upside for a 4 year player who has shown signs of the same thing he was at AZ--a finesse 4. Pheonix had a plan and a style of play and methodically acquired players who fit it. They realized Q-rich was not the guy they wanted, nor joe Johnson worth 80mm, and simply replaced them and dumped q off on us again---BC has dumped over 200mm on the Knicks while he is winning 60 games+ and playing an exciting rband of basketball. Imagine if the Ny Knicks lost Amare for the entire season--again excuse central what has Pheonix done--win.. Has Isiah identifed anyone like Barbosa or Diaw? No Used cap space on Raja Bell and James Jones? dealt from a position of strength in negotiating? no

No, you can make a case that BC squarely btch-slapped Isiah around the room like a scker walking into a card game against a pro.

You had new ownership who dictated a lower payroll. Thus, the Marb dump.

And they tanked a season to do it.

THey were clearing room for Kobe.

I thought the Joe Johnson deal was brilliant! Diaw, and 2 no. 1 picks! Brilliant!

Balls, it took balls!

We are $70 , million OVER the cap with no room to move.

Nash signing for 65mil was Brilliant!

No, they had a plan and they executed on it. If it wasnt for JJ's injury, I think they had a real shot to win it all. realizing that they did not have the depth--they reconfigured--and have withstood an injury to a top 3 nBA player. No team including the Spurs could do what they have done with this injury. besides Joe Dumars, this guy is the best GM in basketball--PROVEN.

And Isiah just gave Toronto room to maneuver. That's why Isiah is a great GM...for other teams.

Plan A
Plan B
Plan C
Etc.

Isiah has plans. He is like the Russian Politburo, every year, a new 5 year plan.

Layden got four years. He walked a careful and expensive treadmill. Do any of us REALLY know how to appreciate jazz?

mister earl, i have very high standards when it comes to the knicks. why? b/c they spend more money than anyone else. while people are struggling to pay bills, rent, food for their kids, etc, these guys are throwing money around like it's nobody's business. it ain't my money, right? i don't care. when you see someone just throwing hundreds of millions of dollars around for a product that is not improving, i just can't sit back and say, 2 more years and it'll all be good. not when i see us slowly entering the same cycle we were in originally.

let me ask you this earl, is this a rebuild? they told us it was a rebuild, but is it? we have a boatload of young players...all of which are now expendable (sans one or two) and rumored to be on the move.

jalen rose? steve francis? those guys are still good enough and young enough to play 35-40 mins a night. ummm, where's the rebuilding in that?

nate is going to get traded. as is ariza. and you're kidding yourself if you don't think lee and butler aren't right behind them.

this team has to justify the money their spending. so they feel the pressure to win. but they're not willing to wait it out with the young kids so they make a move for jalen rose. who immediately became our supposed lockerroom leader (just goes to show you the sad state of affairs we were in already). so when he's on the court, moving the ball around and helping us from not getting blown out every night, david lee and nate robinson are sitting on the bench in their warmups biting their fingernails. some people are ok with that. i'm not.

i don't know bball. i've never been a part of the nba nor do i know the inner workings of the business. but there are things that are VERY wrong with this organization. the philosophy is out of wack and the main participants are having issues behind the scenes. and now we just picked up jalen rose (which they are trying to justify with a #15-20 pick) and rumors are abound that a guy like ratliff or francis is on their way. man, i'm sorry earl, but i can not embrace this.

what i was hoping for is not coming to fruition. so i sit here just shaking my head. forget timelines or anything like that, there is just something amiss with this organization at the top and until there's a major change, we are slowly going to be headed down the same path again. is it b/c of us, the fans? is it the media? or is it just a vicious cycle? i have no f'n clue. just like i have no f'n clue wtf this team is doing...

marv...it's tough.

i still love going to games and watching them play but it's not a coincidence those "LIVE from..." reports are no longer being written.

i sit there and just watch them now. i don't get up and cheer. i don't get excited. i just sit there and watch. before, my heart would be racing, adrenalin pumping during the game. but now, heartbeat is level and i'm just calm.

spot on, dude. this knicks ownership & management makes me sick. I'm sick & tired of the crap we have been putting up with. Rebuilding, but we got Rose. Rebuilding, and we're rumored to be after K-Mart, Francis or Ratliff.

I pray that we're not getting K-mart or Ratliff. That ain't rebuilding. That's just another one of those band-aid move this franchise has been in love with since Ewing left. Isiah is a phucking joke. Seeing this franchise in this pathetic, disgraceful, sad state makes me feels as though someone close has died.

DJ, its the media.

We tried rebuilding for almost half a season. A record of sorts!

Its more fun following the knicks than actually watching the games.

Such drama, intrigue, and the trades. Oh, if you love trades, you love the knicks.

Burning cash like they do is a joke. Imagine a sports franchise better than double the cap. They are 70mil higher than the Sonics payroll! Thats before taxes.

Average NBA franchise value is under $400 million these days. With taxes, our payroll is $180 million.

And the product in inferior. We are the worst team in the league right now! NO worse. The worst team money can buy!

Our starphuched GM is proving his critics right after only two years.

And by the way, I think Layden had a year and a half left on his contract. So he lasted less than 3 years. His contract basically would have run out last summer. Isiah is getting to the same point in his tenure.

I would have to say Isiah at this juncture has been more ruinous.

Layden blew his wad on Dice, but he did not panic after and kept his picks and did not do anyting stupid after. WE had assets, expiring assets.

we could have been closer to what PHX did than not.

Isiah/Dolan needs to be cool now. Don't panic. Just be cool.

I hear ya man. That sequence New Orleans pulled on us with the alley-oops? That was like being bitch-slapped repeatedly. That was like having the life sucked out of you . . and I don't mean the good way like an evening with Divine Brown!

I feel for ya man. Fortunatley I got my kids' criminal lives to distract me at the moment!

Colangelo is one of the few GMs who actually has a draft record he can hold up next to Isiah's. He's also much better at using the cap and building teams and getting quality pieces cheaply. If he's available, you have to make a run at him. I don't know, I can't believe Phoenix would let him go. Doesn't his father, Jerry, own the team?

Daddy sold it. Thats why they shed the payroll in the Marbury Dump.

Jerry has been ill (better now) and if he died they would have to sell it to pay estate taxes. So they sold it ahead and did some created estate planning ahead of time.

Bryan Colangelo is not in any need of a $10 million dollar contract from MSG. He may even own a small part of the Suns. It would have made sense to up him a stake in the franchise before the sale over time as part of any compensation. The Kid did real well.
