ok, i'm not attached to any player on this team. i like some of them and would like them to stick around but at the end of the day, my loyalties lie to the knicks and if they win or not. sweets was my favorite player last year and i was upset when they moved him but i understood why we did.

which leads me to our current situation. we have a plethora of young guys (not on big contracts): jackie, trevor, q2, nate, lee, and frye.

4 of those guys are first round picks, 1 of them a second rounder, and one off the scrap heap.

will they all be nba players? will they all be GOOD nba players? i have no clue.

i understand some of them need to be moved to make our team better. what irks me is the PHILOSPHY of why they have to be moved. we have to move them as ENTICEMENTS to dump guys like q1, malik, jerome, mo, etc. we have to move them to move contracts for players that shouldn't have even been here in the first place.

so now there's discussions of trading some of those young guys in deals for guys like earl watson, ruben patterson, and ratliff.

i ask again, what exactly is the plan? when are we going to just get out of this vicious cycle of big unnecessary contracts? wait, i forgot, who cares about the cap? well, when you HAVE to include a guy like trevor or nate just so we can trade q1, then you know what? the $$$'s matter.

i know it's a process but confused and frustrated is what i am.

rant/whine/moan/bitch, whatever you want to call it, is over.

I think the plan is to stay afloat until Marbury gets back and then see what we have. I think Zeke is being patient, the Jalen move helps stop the bleeding but adds a pick and doesn't affect the team long term, really.

If they go out and get Ratliff, though, I will join in screaming and frustration. Adding Ratliff makes NO SENSE AT ALL.

I think the Jalen trade was made to stop embarassing guys like Jamal and Nate at the point. Jalen is a savvy playmaker and will keep us in a lot of these games.

Whatever the plan is, it is now Larry's plan, not Isiah's plan.

Some of the young guys will get traded. It's inevitable.

Rich - Whatever the plan is, it is now Larry's plan, not Isiah's plan.

How do you know this "plan" to be, in fact, the responsibility of the head coach?

Were you in a meeting?

It's my surmise based on Isiah's assertion that his role now is to get the players Larry wants, and my speculation that his position in the corporation has been weakened by the lawsuit.

(Why don't you use the quote feature?)

if we trade lee for ratliff u can count on me dis-owning the knicks for a while...

lee is the future...jalen rose wont be a knick in a years time...mo taylor if he is still a knick will be coming off the bench, leaving frye to start.

basically all im saying is these guys r really the future and should not be traded

I'd like that to be true but I'm not sure it is. I think the Knicks franchise views them as commodities to be used if the right deal comes along. I hope I'm wrong, but past precedent suggests they'll ride the pine, then be dealt, especially now that Larry is getting the "veteran" players (like Jalen Rose and whomever is next) that he wants.

I'd like to see the Knicks keep most of the rookies with an eye to them being the core of the next generation team, but I don't think that's what'll happen.

We traded for Q and Nate robinson. So if we were to trade both in a package then it would be like if we were to have traded KT straight up for whoever we would eventually get.

Ariza has a long way to go, he may eventually get there but he has a long way to go. I like all our young players, but everyone one of them other than Curry is replaceable. I would want to keep Nate, Lee, Frye, Curry though. I like Q.Woods to.

If we were cappable of packaging some of these young guys with contracts like Q & Crawford. (Moving JJ would be a pipe dream but I would love for that to happen) To get less talented guys but guys with contracts that end around 07/08 then that would be solid. We would be able to build back up with the picks we have. And have a great chance to be out of salary cap hell after Houston/Anderson/Rose/JYD contracts are off the books. In the 06/07 - 07/08 seasons.

Darius Miles is a risk because his contract goes to 09. Miles can be a defensive force on the perimeter and Larry could use him. But is his mind right?? If not and Larry can't work with him then that one would really hurt but not so much if we are able to move Q.Richardson.

Penny, Richardson, Ariza for Ratliff, Miles, Jarret Jack, & small sweetner.
Nate, Crawford, Butler for Danny Fortson, Swift & 2nd rd pick.

Curry/Swift/Ratliff
Fortson/Frye/Taylor
Miles/Lee/J.Rose
Rose/Woods/Marbury
Marbury/Rose/Jack
James, Rose, and whoever else im forgetting.

JJ & Miles would be the only contracts going past 07/08. Curry/Frye/Swift/Lee would make up nice frontcourt to build around in the future after the mess gets cleaned up. We really wouldn't need to make any other trades. All we would need to do is draft let these short term contracts expire and let Larry teach. Unless there was a decent package cappable of unloading James & Miles for shorter contracts without touching that frontcourt core.
