i dont know if anybody else saw this article...but do you think we'd have a shot at getting harrington in a sign and trade if we ship jalens expiring contract off in the summer? and also without giving up too many of our young guys.

Short ride
for Rose?

Jalen Rose's run as the Knicks' point-forward may last only until the end of the season.
Isiah Thomas acquired Rose, who is expected to be in the starting lineup today, and his soon-to-be expiring contract with the idea of trading him this summer, according to people close to the Knicks' president. Thomas has been pursuing Atlanta's Al Harrington for two years and now believes he has enough pieces to make a deal for Harrington, who will be a free agent in the summer.

By acquiring Rose and a first-round pick from Toronto for Antonio Davis, Thomas now has two first-round picks in June. He could conceivably trade both with either Rose's or Maurice Taylor's expiring contract to land a front-line player.

Although the Knicks don't appear to have the assets to acquire Kevin Garnett, Thomas may be able to convince Atlanta to agree to a sign-and-trade for Harrington. Harrington could play small forward, which would give the Knicks a young starting front line of Harrington, Channing Frye and Eddy Curry.

"In this business no one evaluates you on what you might do tomorrow, only on what you did yesterday," said one rival GM. "Rose isn't going to get the Knicks in the playoffs. But he could get them another player."

In the short term, the deal doesn't look good for Thomas. Rose's presence will mean less playing time for some of the team's younger players, most notably Nate Robinson and David Lee. And by factoring in the luxury tax, Rose's contract will cost the Knicks $34 million next season. Thomas is trying to trade Penny Hardaway's expiring contract before the Feb. 23 trading deadline. Larry Brown wants a shot-blocker, and Hardaway could be traded to Portland for Theo Ratliff.

No Ratliff please!!! Frye and Butler had, what, 9 blocks combined in the last game? We don't need a hobbled center. What, are we giving up on Curry now? You better trade Curry for an elite player if you plan on taking his minutes away.
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

when Curry's conditioning an effort on the defensive end warrants big minutes, he'll get them.

I am also very much against Theo Ratliff. He's old old old and signed for $34 million over three years. no thanks.

Why would the Hawks want Jalen's expiring contract? That's just a huge amount of money for them to spend. They're under the cap; so the salaries don't have to match. Matching salaries and taking back long-term $ are the only benefits of expiring contracts.

I'm sick of this idea that if a guy can supposedly play defense he is all of a sudden better than another player.

Currys defense at times has been terrible. At times he has been great.

Theo ratliff used to be a good shot blocker. He is not the same player. Ratliff never was a good rebounder.

At any rate getting theo ratliff can help this team now but if anyone thinks that the guy should get minutes over curry because he used to be a good shot blocker needs to follow the pga tour and get off the pistons nutsac.

do you like watchig all the dumb plays this team makes?

Curry isn't a 35 minutes per game player with or without Ratliff here. The real question is would you rather see Theo or James. For me its a no-brainer - get Theo.

The question was not Theo or James.....it was the statement that Ratliff should be getting minutes over curry because he used to be able to play defense. That to me is obsurd.

Rose is a keeper. I told all you guys that for years now. Now the Knicks are set in the backcourt especially when Marbs is back. Jalen can run the team and score......with him and Marbs back there the team will always be a threat. The game will always be under control.
How exciting is this?

The idea of getting Patterson and Theo is a good idea......I like the idea of having Ratliff backing up Curry. I also like the idea of getting Patterson. Why? Because it keeps retards like Jerome James and Ariza off the floor. Yes......Patterson and Theo are back ups.....neither should be starting regardless of how good a defender anyone things they are.

The KMart Rumor too? How stacked would the team be if they can keep Fryem and Lee and get K-Mart? Relaod with guys that could play anywhere in the league. The only thing that needs to happen is for guys to gel....

if this all happens before the trading deadline?

He earned those rings on the floor, where he was second to none. I'm getting less and less convinced of him in the front office. What would you say the Knicks' record should be once Marbs gets back and joins Jalen to justify your faith in this trade?

Depends on whether there is another trade. I want to see addition by subtraction. Ship out the players that don't fit here and just get more draft picks.

Marv - I expect the Knicks to play at least .500 ball for the remainder of the season when Marbury returns at full speed.

It won't be dull

Marv - I'm getting less and less convinced of that used car salesman Kevin McHale

"I keep telling y'all, man, this team doesn't have the chemistry," Kevin Garnett told Steve Aschburner of the Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE. "It doesn't have the camaraderie, nor the identity. We're still soul-searching for ourselves. We have a brand-new team. However you want to put it, this is a brand-new, squeaky-clean new team."

get me Al Harrington... i've been calling for the Knicks to trade for him for the past 3 years... i know some on this board have referred to him as a "retread", but he's torched the Knicks every time we've played the Hawks this year... i don't care how much of a retread this guy is, he can play, & we need a player like that on this team.

Ditto for me. Couldn't agree more. Just keep compiling young talent to develop or use in other trades.
