We finally got a player with a head and a heart and a game and a potential lottery pick in exchange for a dinosaur and some of Dolan's bank account.

It's the bare minimum I'd expect Isiah to get for an expiring contract. I support the deal but it's not a landslide victory for us.

what if Denver loses the division to Minnesota or Utah, misses the playoffs and gets the 12th pick? Camby just got injured again, Nene isn't playing so it isn't out of the question. The West is tough. NOK is deep. Lakers are playing well. Clippers have righted the ship and Utah and Minnie are playing pretty well. Denver is no lock for the playoffs.

i think this trade is good, but has the potential to be very very good. potentially, it replaces the lost Curry lotto pick.

What do you think Isiah could have gotten for Antonio Davis? We got a player who can help us right away and who's deal expires next season and a potential lottery pick! What else did you expect?

Bonn was holding out for KG or Brand.

The team's biggest trade assets are the expiring contracts. We're gonna have to get a lot for them for this to workout. Sure, the pick could be 12 theoretically, but it could also be double that. For me to give the trade an A, we would have to have gotten Pape Sow or Calderon in addition to the pick and Jalen.

Now is the time to let Penny's, J. Rose's, Taylor's, Houston's, and Anderson's contract expire.

Would you rather he let AD's contract expire? If not, then why not hope for a similar trade with Penny's contract? Some kind of talent upgrade with another draft pick for one more season on a contract?

I would make a similar trade for Penny, if the contract of the player they got back ended after next season.

The Knicks are in a position to take about $70 million off the cap after '07.

btw, This trade likely ends any chance of signing James to the MLE.

I haven't even heard anything about Isiah being interested in Mike James anyway. It was really just a few of us here (including me) talking about James. I'd rather use the MLE on someone who can block shots.

Various articles on this trade report that Thomas had discussed an expanded trade with Ariza being moved for James.

Acquiring the draft pick was the primary objective, however. The Knicks and the Raptors had discussed various versions of a deal, some of which included Mike James and Trevor Ariza, for months. But Toronto, under General Manager Rob Babcock, would not relinquish a first-round pick. Babcock was fired last week and replaced on an interim basis by Wayne Embry.

If all that happened, would the Knicks be under the cap? If not, how far away would they be?

Currently next years payroll is $110mil(thats with letting penny expire). The contracts of Houston, Rose, Taylor, Anderson, and JYD are just a hair over $61mil. So, simple math, assuming they all just expire, we will be at $49mil. Now, that also doesnt include Ariza, Woods, or Butler being signed to extensions. This is why i hope we can use our #1s from denver and SA to unload JJ, Qrich, and Malik for expiring deals. Unloading 2 of the 3 will definately have us under the cap in 07/08. There is light at the end of the tunnel!

So salary cap wise, the Knicks are at a crossroads. They have a realistic chance of getting under the cap for the first time in almost a decade.

When is LeBron a FA?

lebron is a FA in 07/08, the same year we could conceivably have cap room. but will lebron really want out of cleveland? can we really get someone to take Qrich+Malik, or even JJ off our hands by throwing in a 1st and some cash?

I don't know, but the idea of him playing in NY should even make David Stern smile.
