i mean it's been rumored everywhere we were going to move penny for jalen.

but now, it's AD, our supposed lockerroom leader, our liason between the players and lb, and our best defensive frontcourt player.

can someone explain to me, why it was AD and not penny?

i have some theories but i'd like to hear your thoughts...

Possibilities:

1) Maybe the Raptors wanted a player who can actually play?
2) Maybe the Raptors thought AD would be a nice role model for their young bigs.
3) Maybe the Raptors just wanted to save money--AD makes about $3 mil less than Penny.
4) Maybe Isiah has a different trade in the works involving Penny.

What are your theories? Dramatic ones about mental wars between Isiah and Larry?

Sam Mitchell is good friends with AD. it's possible he thought AD would be a good influence on CV and CB4 and Sao. The Raptors do have a thing front court. Loren Woods should not be getting minutes in the NBA.

Exactly; I honestly can't think of one reason why Toronto would have preferred Penny over AD.

i don't even think AD is going to report to toronto. he hated it there and forced a trade. if anything, he'll get waived...

Could be. Waiving him costs about $3 mil less than waiving Penny

thats what I was thinking. I don't know. if he's friends with Sam, he may report. there's completely new management in place from when he was traded originally.

If you want a good laugh, the fact that the Raps waived Alonzo (the league's leading shot-blocker) and traded this Denver pick away, means they traded Vince Carter for Joey Graham!

You're assuming based on what that they wouldn't have given cash if Penny had been included?
What are your theories? You posted this thread and said you had some. We're all waiting for them

I think they felt getting rid of AD would be addition by subtraction on the court. Brown can't start AD now so he'll have to play the guys that should have been playing ahead of him from the begining.

Penny is like the family secret. They know who he is and where he is but no one talks about him.....like he doesn't exist.

This is exactly what I wanted to happen since December. It's 2 months too late but there is still time to add another player for that guy's contract.....you know that guy.....from memphis.....

Main Reasons

1. Davis will probably be able to contribute right away to the Raptors and Penny would ....
2. Jalen, Alan Houston's, Shandon Anderson, and JYD buyout along with Mo Taylor and Penny all come off the books next year.

BigC - good information.

So, would that make Isiah Thomas a sloppy spendthrift or actually having a coherant long-range plan to reduce payroll while getting younger, more versatile and more talented in the process?

The essential elements -

One thorugh four - talent (check) , versatility (improving) , toughness (will come with experience), trust (time will tell)....

The Fifth Element - chemistry
once a knick always a knick

good information... unfortunately inaccurate.

Penny's contract is the only one that comes off the books at the end of this season.
Jalen, Allan, Shandon, Mo T come off at the end of next season.
JYD's buyout & Malik come off the books at the end of the 2008 season.

just how do these things point toward the fact that Isiah has a good longterm plan to REDUCE payroll when he essentially gave up shorter & expiring contracts in order to obtain some of these players in the first place? let's see, we have Q Rich, JJ, Frye, Lee & Nate's contracts coming off the books at the end of the 2010 season... i guess you'll be busting out this genius theory of yours then as well... can't wait for that.
