The Knicks president Isiah Thomas showed that despite the turmoil swirling around him, he remains active in bolstering the team's roster. With the Knicks playing in Toronto, Thomas traded the longtime power forward Antonio Davis to the Raptors for the little-used small forward Jalen Rose and a first-round draft pick.

The draft pick acquired in the deal is Denver's and is not lottery-protected. The Knicks now have two picks in the June draft, having previously obtained San Antonio's as part of the Malik Rose deal last year. The Knicks gave their own pick to Chicago in the Eddy Curry trade in October.

The Raptors also agreed to give the Knicks $3 million, the maximum amount of cash allowed under league rules.

The trade was awaiting league approval.

You know - giving up the pick for Curry keeps looking worse with our record. I bet we end up with the #1 pick and have to ship it off. Its nice to still have 2 picks...but a #1 pick would certainly help the cause - although I am glad we got a big man in Curry.

doesnt say there is any protection and it does mention protection on most others. If this is the case it certainly makes it better. Camby can break any time and Kmart isnt all that sturdy either.

The Denver pick is completely unprotected, per nba.com:

http://www.nba.com/nets/news/kenyon_040715.html

The breakdown of the future picks acquired by the Nets includes: Clippers 2005, protected 1-14 or 2006, unprotected: Philadelphia 2005, protected 1-8 or 2006, protected 1-5 or 2007, unprotected: Denver 2006, protected 1-5, 2007, protected 1-2, 2008, unprotected.

it's a lot of money to spend for a pick but regardless, getting an unprotected #1 is good.

It ain't your money.

Seriously. Money should concern us insofar as it effects the team's cap structure. This trade does nothing to change our cap situation-- we were going to be way over next year regardless.

Besides, it's not just for a pick. We get a player who can help us out right now, at least in the short term.

you're right, it doesn't effect the cap structure. it's not a bad trade and we're probably the only team that would make it b/c of our $$$$'s advantage.
