Steven Hunter To Oklahoma City
1st February, 2006 - 12:27 pm
RealGM - The New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets announced today that
they have acquired center Steven Hunter and cash considerations from Philadelphia in exchange for second round picks in 2006 and 2007.

"Steven will bring athleticism and length off the bench," said Hornets General Manager Jeff Bower. "Along with yesterday's acquisition of Aaron Williams, I think we know have a very solid frontcourt rotation."

Hunter had averaged 4.9 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.0 blocks in 35 games with the Sixers this season prior to the trade. The 7-0 center started 13 of those games and recorded three or more blocks six times. He had signed with the Sixers as a free agent prior to the season after spending the 2004-05 campaign with Phoenix.

RealGM Note: Philly will get a $2,800,000 Traded Player Exception which they can use to acquire a player/players from now until February 1, 2007

so within 2 days, they trade 4 #2 picks for aaron williams and steven hunter.

you think if maybe we paid jerome james a reasonable salary, we could've moved him also?

He is a shot-blocker. He fills a function. To 29 of 30 GM's shot-blocking is not overrated.

what is so shrewd about this move, philly made a mistake with Hunter, we knew he stunk, now they ditched him off on NOK. I would say that was a shrewd move by the sixers...

He has blocked .9 shots per game for the season. 1.1 per for his career. That's hardly a shot-blcoking machine.

Curry has .9 per game for this season also. .9 as well for his career. Jerome James has a 1.3 per game average for his career.

One person calls Hunter a shot-blocker and the title sticks? I agree with TMS, he's a scrub.

Hunter is a scrub, but he is a shotblocking scrub. His career mintues are much less than that of Curry's he is by far a superior shotblocker to Curry. But he does suck all the way. Dude has got ADD, he can't run a play. Would I take him over Jerome fat smuck James? Sure, anything is better then 30 mil eating burgers and chillin out in street clothes.
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

NOK adda a shot-blocker to replace birdman and it cost them little. When a certain other GM wants to add a shot-blocker he finds one that is 30 and fat and a career loafer and pays him the full MLE. NOK is on the cusp of the play-offs. For 15 minutes a night, they can now rest Brown and West and still play at a good level with the acquisitions of AW and SH.

Hunter will fill the same role he had in Phoenix.

Shrewd.

On Philly's behalf, Sam has fully recovered and Randolph is cheaper and giving them good minutes behind Sam.

Good roster management.

Hunter, along with maybe James Jones of PHX, are actually the guys I wanted with the mid-level for the Knicks instead of Jerome James. Or I wanted DeSagana Diop...I don't think Zeke should be judged only on the Jerome James signing (he's done some positive things for the club too), but man, truth be told, it was an absolutely horrendous signing... Hunter is younger than James (as is Diop), they could've got him for half the price (Diop too) and he's quicker and a much better shotblocker. Remember, ya gotta look at blocks per minute with a guy like Hunter as he hasn't really got a lot of PT since he's been in the league. He's more than efficient as a back-up center. A nice trade for the Hornets...

I think them getting Steven Hunter is genius. Hunter can play....he played well when Dalembert was out. Good pick up for the Hornets.

Hunter is a scrub. This is like his 7th team. I knew he was a scrub when I wanted him this off season. No way he could have been our starting center though. No freaking way. At the time he was not an option, we needed a starting big and Big Game was that on a 50 win team last year.

Your argument is plain awful. Let's see here, their careers:

Stephen Hunter: 1.12 blks in 13.4 mpg.
Eddy Curry: .88 blks in 23.5 mpg.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that Stephen Hunter is a MUCH better shot blocker than Eddy Curry. Play the same minutes, and Hunter would more than double Curry's output.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

he isn't going to start in NO. He is going to come off the pine and block some shots. he is a 7th or 8th man. its not that hard.

And James starting for Sea was the same as Royal Ivey for Atlanta - window dressing. Nate chose to finish games with 6'6 Fortson as opposed to 7'2 big lame. If that doesn't hit home, I dunno what will
