First thing, first.
Fire Isiah & Mills. Bring in someone with vision and ability to manage a business/team.

Then make this trade:

NY sends
Stephon Marbury
Quentin Richardson
Jackie Butler

Houston sends
Moochie Norris (EC)
David Wesley (EC)
Stromile Swift
Rafer Alston
2006 1st round pick

Houston lineup

Marbury/Head
Q/Barry
McGrady/Hayes
Howard/Bowen/Baxter
Yao/Deke/Butler

Inactive: Sura, Anderson

NY line up

Alston/Nate
Craw/Wesley
Woods/Lee
Frye/Swift/Rose
Curry/Mo/AD

Inactive: JJ, Ariza, Penny

Then we,
  • Waive Moochy.

  • Look to trade Wesley for a future pick, otherwise let his deal expire along with Penny’s.

  • WHY THIS TRADE?: I’m not a Rafer Alston fan, but this trade is aimed to bring cap sanity back to NYC. We move both Marbury and Q. Having Marbury in a rebuilding situation is not fair to him or to the team. Q should not be a part of the future and he goes. We’ll be lowering the cap dramatically, and we add Swift and Rafer, who can help us defensively. No they’re not stars but this is a work in progress. We get a likely lottery pick from Houston because both T-mac and Yao have been battling injuries. They are missing Bob Sura as well. I think the injury issues will continue to hurt the Rockets, and even with the addition of Marbury, I see them not making the playoffs this year.

Offseason/Draft:
  • With the Houston pick, go after Shelden Williams or Hilton Armstrong. I'd even trade up using Houston pick & Ariza to get Williams.

  • With SA pick, draft the likes of Mike Gansey, Hassan Adams (This draft is weak in PGs. I’d rather look for a PG next yr.)

  • Resign AD for vet min for his leadership.

Next season LU
Alston/Craw/Nate
Woods/Craw/Gansey
Lee/Woods/Ariza
Frye/Swift
Curry/Mo/Shelden Williams

Inactive: JJ, Rose, AD

Payroll (not including Woods/Ariza/AD extension and next yr’s rookies)

This season $121,543,126
06/07 $88,882,373
07/08 $37,874,293 - Sign a star franchise player!

This is how I'd try to build the team. No more taking on big $$$. Shed $$$ and bring in young players with defensive skills and toughness. Let them learn under Larry, and then bring in a real franchise star in 07/08 who fits Larry's style of play.

Not bad I like the Hilton Armstrong, and Gansey picks, I would even look into Randy Foye, Houston is in a tough spot because they need to win now and I think they might be enticed to do the deal because with Steph taking it off the dribble it would open things up for Yao, and they get a backup for Mutumbo, but I just don't see them doing it.....

I would move Ariza in a heartbeat for anything even a late first round pick......

But lets be realistic no way the trade happens...

I like the talent level, Oak but with Alston, Swift, AND Craw we got 3 of the 5 starters for the all headcase team.

We save 9 million dollars in cap space and get a pick that will not be in the top 10 if Yao, T-mac and Marbs play any time together. plus we get a headache and maybe the leagues dumbest player in stromile, for our best player, and a nice young prospect in Jackie Butler and the ability to move q.

We still swap with Chicago the year after, so it doesn't work so well. I don't think Zeke would do this its too late because we gave up and will switch our pick. Its too late for this kind of trade, but its not a bad idea. I certainly wouldn't be watching any games though and I doubt many people would be coming.
