...according to the Daily News article by Mitch Lawrence. I wonder why none of the other beat reporters got the scoop on this. Well, I'm happy about the amount though....the 1M (1.4M) exception. This very well could be an indication that the Knicks will use their mid level exception to sign another FA. Otherwise I think they would have used part of their mid level to sign Doleac.

There are plenty of good FA out there, especially guards. Walt Williams, Jim Jackson, Rod Strickland, Travis Best, JEFF MCINNIS. Knicks will not get Keon because Doleac was promised a starting job. McInnis is probably our primary target. NONE our PG are worthy to start which is sad. Everybody knows Williams isnt nearly ready to even to get regular playing time.

I don't know about McInnis, one of the main reasons why he hasn't been signed is that he wants the full midlevel.

What about splitting it up between Rodney Rogers and Troy Hudson? Both great talents but going at a much lower rate because of the lowered cap and dooming luxury tax.

Did you read this some where, or are you just making it up? If I'm a starting center for a team like the Knicks, I think I'd ask for more than 1M dollars. Very hard to believe.

Exactly.. even in that Daily News article, it said he'd be backing up Kurt.

I think Layden definitely did a good job with this one. I am too surprised that no other local paper reported this deal this close to being done. I'm sure there will be a lot in the papers tomorrow. Anyways, signing Doleac for the vets exception over the next two years is a absolute steal. I felt the same way about him signing a deal which starts for roughly 2.75M. Now he's starting his deal for only 1.4M and thats awsome. Layden still has the full exception to use and even though he doesn't want to spend it all, he could still get a quality free agent for part of the exception simply because no one is putting out the money this summer. Hudson, McInnis, and Best are three real good guards that might not be able to get the money they want. Keep in mind that Frank Williams could be out for the first few months of the season so signing a point guard, especially if he will start might not be a bad idea.

Doleac is not starting over Kurt Thomas.

The Knicks should have a three man rotation at the 4 and 5 between Dyess, KT, and Doleac. Thomas will start at center and play around 32 minutes a game. McDyess will start at PF and play 38-40 minutes a game. That leaves about 24-26 minutes for Doleac off the bench.

I don't remember reading that anywhere....but if it was said it is very nieve of you to believe that anything an agent says will hold true...especially when it comes to playing time and a starting spot.

I think the only reason this signing makes sense is it makes one of our current bigs (KT, Spoon, Harrington) expendable in a trade for a PG. Although I wouldn't want to see KT leave, there's gotta be a follow-up move with this one.

he's definately not playing 25 min a game or starting. his career minutes per game avg is 17. kurt thomas isn't getting demoted to 6th man for doleac, a role player that we got at the right price. cheap.

I would feel confortable giving him between 20 and 25 minutes a game. He's no Patrick Ewing, but he's also no Travis Knight either. He will demand minutes and is right along the lines as Spoon and Harrington only bigger, which means he will demand a lot more minutes with the Knicks. I think he will end up being our third most productive big man on both ends of the floor.

Eh...this is a good deal...not too much to worry about here. Doleac is a hard working guy, with some good touch from the outside, and some (I think ?) low post moves...but this is putting me to sleep, can we get something to spark my interest? Better go grab another cup of coffee...
I came here to drink beer and kick some ass, and we're almost out of beer...

Think about what you are saying, Caseloads.

Trading KT means that the Knicks have Doleac starting at center with Travis Knight backing him up.

That is lunacy.

We obviously don't want that. I like KT as a starter, unless he can go in a trade that brings in a true starting center. Doleac is a good back-up that has a very reasonable contract so we shouldn't move him for awhile.

news reported doleac set to make 7.5 mil over 3 years, not the 1.4 mil exception.

3 years worth 7.5M isn't too bad. It's not overpaying him, especially considering centers should be making the most money, but i consider that being the approapriate deal for him. I still think it's a very good pick-up.
