I'm watching the TNT post game show now.

He has a "Dominoe Effect" segment. Dude said If Houston never made that shot they would have never signed Houston to that 100 million dollar contract. Why because the Knicks would have never went on to the Finals that year.....Which he said got Jeff Van Gundy a one year extention instead of being fired.

He also said Sprewell was the franchise and that 100 million dollar deal crippled that franchise cuz they could not make the next move to better the team.....therefore wasting Houston and Sprewells careers. Houston is now hurt and retired and still getting paid off that contract for 2 more seasons.

He also stated "The Shot" lead to Ewing tearign his achillies tendon during that 1999 run. Which led to the awful trade they made with Seattle.

He also said the Knicks are still hurting off "The Shot". They have a payroll that is screwed all to hell and Isiah came in and tried to move salary around and did a good job of getting talent but not players that fit well.....he also stated Brown was a great coach but not the coach for this type of situation.

Barkley disagreed of course and blamed Checketts and Layden.

I was suprised to hear this coming out of my TV set.

By the way I feel like crying cuz Kenny Smith is absolutely right.

Kenny was liek what would have happened differently had Houston not made "The Shot".

It literally hurts to think about it.

Not really, didn't have anything to do with it. They could have still traded Houston for something special and we did get to the eastern conference finals the next year and flaked out.....

What screwed us was management, not some stupid shot you don't give a one dimensional player who has no market a max deal, Kenny has no idea what he is talking about......

That run happened because of our depth Van Gundy is a terrible coach that ****ed up the entire year, and realized to late that he had the best team in the NBA, had we been healthy Ewing, LJ and Childs we take the championship

Exactly, it was management that put us in this hole, which current management just continues to deepen, and not the "shot". Signing Houston to the deal, trading Ewing, not tearing down the mess and instead looking to make quick moves in a misguided attempt to win now, trading away multiple potential lottery picks, signing overpriced and questionable veterans, having a payroll that's well over twice the salary cap and playing ass grab is why we're the laughingstock of the NBA. It wasn't the "Shot".

If it didn’t work in Phoenix with Nash and Stoutamire... it’s just not a winning formula. It’s an entertaining formula, but not a winning one. - Derek Harper talking about D'Antoni's System

After this comment, it may be the last time we see Kenny Smith broadcast Knick games. MSG higher-ups are very sensitive to their employees making dispariging remarks about the team.

I totally agree with all that, At the time Van Gundy would have been fired at the end of that season...As I remember Ernie Grunfeld was the GM at the time as well...After that shot, Van Gundy gain power and was able to push out Grunfeld who was doing a great job at the time..Biggest mistake in Knick modern history was to let Grunfled go...Grunfeld brough in Houston,Camby and Sprewell. He would have never made the Ewing deal...Looking back what a sad day in Knick history...Houston is now paying as well with Van Gundy making big money and he is not that impressive as a coach...Interesting..

With Grunfeld, and Ewing of course, Knicks made 9 consecutive trips to the post season with two trips to the finals...He was fires because Van Gundy would not play Camby an would not start Spree...Van Gundy was upset at the Oakley for Camby trade...So they were at each other alot and Checketts had to get rid of one of them because the tension was so bad...He could not fire Jeff because they beat Miami in a huge game after "The Shot"....

Kennys take is that the making of that shot caused management to make all those moves.

Damn you guys just disagree for nothing sometimes. How you gonna disagree and then say it was management. Barkely made the same exact comments after Kenny said all that.

Read the first post again. If Houston misses the shot then jvg is probably fired after they lose the Miami series. Then maybe ewing doesn't tear his tendon and never gets traded. Maybe management decides not to keep Houston and build around
Spree and camby. That's a lot of basketball years ago. tons of stuff could be different around the garden.

All because of the shot. That **** is just crazy to me to think about.

LOL, Listen to you!

That trade was talked about over a month ago, around the time Artest said he wanted to be traded.

The guys on PTI mentioned that about 40 plus days ago, Walsh and the Pacers could've made this trade during the initial 10 day deadline that they had set when Artest made his request to be traded.
