January 24, 2006 -- I have it on excellent authority the Pacers and Kings are exceedingly close to swapping Ron Artest (three more years after this on his contract with a right to opt out after two) for Peja Stojakovic, who has the freedom to opt out after this season or play out the next.

Then again, let me put it another way: The two teams are as close as my Paper Clips were to acquiring Artest for Corey Maggette before an Indiana doctor decided the swingman's left ankle was too great a risk.

According to three sources, it's strictly Sacramento's call; the Pacers are agreeable and ready to deal, and are waiting for the Kings to make up their mind.

Hmmm, my usual feeling is that if Vecsey hears about it before it happens it's not going to happen.

But there are papers in Indy reporting that A trade is very close, but no hint of who it's for (maybe they don't wanna jinx it):
Bird: Artest trade will happen soon
Pacers president dismisses idea that All-Star's pending departure is a legitimate distraction

The Indiana Pacers appear to be closing in on a trade involving Ron Artest.

In the meantime, team president Larry Bird doesn't accept the argument that all the intrigue surrounding their forward should be a factor in the team's play.

I wonder if Peja could find his game in Indiana? I think the Kings will see a bigger immediate benefit, unless Artest goes insane.

What is the source on this DJ? Interesting to say the least though.

I think the Pacers would see the immediate benefit. Peja is playing and Artest still has to get into game shape.

This would be a great trade for Peja and the Pacers. It gives O'neal his Reggie Miller type to throw the ball out to when he is double teamed, and it gives Peja a low post player that demands attention, enabling him more space to shoot, just like when he had Webber.

It is also good for the Kings, they have enough shooters with Miller and Bibby, Artest will be a totally new dimension for them.

Good luck Mike D'Antoni, 'cause you ain't never seen nothing like this before!

Dude, he's so rusty and has cobwebs growing all over him. I don't think it would be much of an issue.
