Welcome to New York, population: who knows
So the 05-06 season began with alot of promise and we knick fans were really satisfied by the job Isiah Thomas A.K.A Zeke did.(Well except for some) Landing Curry who was bought in to be our center of the future, the addition of Q. Richardson to help us play a set 3 guard rotation and the presence of a our three rookies. Not to mention our biggest offseason investment Larry Brown
Very promising indeed.
Now with all the positives out of the way, lets have a look at the negatives. The biggest off season blunder had to be the signing of jerome james who recieved a huge payday based off one postseason series playing against a depleted Kings frontline. Instead of getting james with the MLE, we shouldve went after Gerald Wallace. The retirement of allan houston wasnt really a negative but houston mightve been able to help this team if he was healthy.
Season begins and we see flashes from the youngsters when they are playing that is. Lee looks like a solid rebounder and finisher at this level. Nate is a speed demon with crazy athleticism and channing turned out to be more than expected.
As far as all rookies may go, they will experience their negatives. In order for them to grow they need to experience their mistakes as well. Nate with his turnovers, Lee with his inability to shoot consistently and Frye trying to get rid of the im a soft, jump shooting euro mantra. We're seeing this team grow but surely it will take time...unfortunately we're in NY and the fans want a quick response. Some fans may be patient...but a good majority want the team to win ASAP...even though this team is very young.
Larrys Lineups 21 different starting lineups...really has taken him a long time to figure who needs to be starting and who shouldnt...false promises of frye starting but later benched, but we later see why...hes not a well defender. However, we did go on a 6th game winning streak where everything was clicking...but there was still alot of other issues that the winning streak just threw under the rug.
Inconsistency not to single out one person...but jamal crawford takes it....knicks are 8-4 when he scores over 20 points in a game. 5-22 when he scores under 20. Also some games everyone comes up fired up, while others come out flat.Sluggish one game, but on fire the next.
Defense 6 game win streak wasnt defined by our defense.during that streak were scoring well over a 100, but gave up a lil over 100 as well. Our perimeter defense is shoddy, the only person that actually can guard the perimeter when they try is marbury. Crawfords defense is horrific and some NBA points overwhelm Nate with size or a combination of strength and size. Our Interior D is a little better but they shouldnt be giving up lay ups all the time. I blame this on the lack of perimeter D
Now i dont know what the future holds...we're arent exactly packing draft picks and we sure arent seeing cap space anytime soon. We dont need to add aging veterans to this team or players with extended contracts. I rather see the rookies,ariza,curry,crawford,Q1,Q@.Jackie B all learn.A Jalen Rose and Theo Ratliff arent necessary. Lets concentrate on the talent we have now and if things dont work out than make moves later.
Also some of the knick fans are horrible...just atrocious. The way some of them whine and bicker after a lose is crazy. We havent seen the playoffs in a while which i know. But some of these so called fans yell and bicker and overreact to this team as soon as this team loses a game. Hello ppl its called a learning process and if you dont learn you wont be successful. larrys 1st year philly was 21-61 i think...the next year they made the playoffs. We need to be patient...the oldest guy on this team that is actually relevant is marbury at 28. Our core is young too. So sotp complaining after a loss. It will happen, the 6 game wining streak showed our offense is fine except against the zone its the defense that needs work. We may or may not make the playoffs but i for one am excited about the possibilty of how good this team can be if it plays to its full potential. We've seen flashes, hopefully things get better for the knicks and their fans in 06.

''We don't have the luxury to take anybody lightly,'' New York's Quentin Richardson said. ''We're not that good.''
