I thought that there were several posters here who disliked Smith's commentary in the last game he did?

There are times I enjoyed his comments and other times I found them to add nothing more than the obvious or simply be cliche. I think some like him because he's popular from 'Inside the NBA' on TNT/TBS and gives the Knicks some much desired "outside of NY Media NBA credibility" from some fans.

I feel fine with him as an color analyst but sometimes he was just sewing cliched, nonsensical, verbal diarrhea.

The one that sticks out in my mind was a comment, late in the game, about Frye's follow up dunk to Nate's nice drive to the basket that missed. Kenny was like:

"That's what you need to do. Don't expect the guy to hit his shot, you have to go to the hoop too."

Then he started saying again, "Don't expect him to hit it, and don't expect him to not..."

????

Anyway, if you're a forward in the paint, why would you "expect" the ball to always go in? Isn't it commonplace to anticipate a miss on every shot no matter what?

I just thought Smith's whole commentary there didn't really add anything other than he felt the need to say something that sounded "insightful" when they showed the replay.

Again, I'm fine with Smith's approach, but it needs refinement.

Im with you, I love him on TNT, absolutely dont like him here. Marv and Clyde was where it was at. I can still bare it with Breen because I know hes a knick fan and most of the times he still has Clyde. Without clyde, telecasts wouldnt be very good.
Also, Id much rather have a guy who is a Knick fan, even if they arent good.

Kenny's okay, but I think he talks too much sometimes. It's distracting. At least with the Knicks you can usually listen on the radio if you don't like the TV announcers. I often just turn the sound down when I want to really focus on the action.

Kenny is still green doing games, but in a good way. He is talking, but tells it like he sees it as a former player.

I love clyde the player, not so clyde the announcer.

Walton has toned it down.

His remarks about LJ being a subpar humanbeing during a game was way uncalled for. He is entitled to his opinion, but it was the wrong stage.

sorry but I love Bill Walton
Me too. Hes hilarious. I like Kenny too.

You don't know how bad it is until you watch a few games on NBA league pass. some of these other markets have PAINFUl commentating going on. I'd rather play music and watch than listen to them. They are dead, no life, no analysis, no nothing.

Marv and Marc Jackson are pretty bad. Marv used to be the best too, but they are hard to listen to.

Kenny and Bill are better than alot of the homers, that annouce for their respective teams, some of those guys are horrible.

I always and still feel that Walton is one of the worst color guys around. He is wrong 75% of the time and tries to make up for it with humor. Johnny Hoops was a big homer in the 90s. Like most people in the 90s I rather listen to Clyde and Breen on the radio while I have the sound down. I think Clyde is perfect critique of Marbury, he always get on him and lets people know that it is time for Marbury to take over a game. I think Clyde sees alot of himself in Marbury. As much as I hate Greg Anthony he was a decent color guy. Starks is hard to listen to.

I think he provides insight that many fans wouldn't otherwise have access to.

I really enjoyed Kenny. Maybe thats because he brought some new material.

After watching Knicks games for years, Walt gets soooooooooo annoying. He says the same things over and over and over. The phrases such as razzle-dazzle are fun. But the examples blow. Such as "conventional 3pt play" or "back in my day the shot clock was on the floor." I've heard those about 20x each.

ALSO, I get really uncomfortable listening to Breen and Clyde cause it seems like Breen makes fun of Clyde's... errr... not-quick-on-the-uptake-ness... a lot. Clyde doesn't even notice sometimes!

I thought Kenny did a great job and brought a new, good voice to the Knicks.

i'm not thrilled with Kenny but i agree that he's green and expect he'll get better.

Clyde is smooth but anyone who's watched or listened to the Knicks for years wont learn anything new from him. but he's like comfort food for the ears.

my favorite team was Marv and Andariese.

Of the national guys I like Kerr now and I used to like Matt Goukas, but I haven't heard him in a while.

Walton doesn't bother me like he does some, he's just being a goof ball, but I'm very glad they stopped pairing him with Snapper Jones with them doing their annoying old married couple arguing over everything schtick.

The thing that made me laugh was the comment about Nate. Nate said that the only thing he wish the NBA League had was for players to have roomates. Kenny said Nate likes to talk and told Nate to just go to sleep.

Marv and the others that liked Kenny against Dallas: What did you think about him in the Atlanta game? I thought he was fine in the 1st quarter but got annoying and started talking too much again in the 2nd and on. He talks over the play by play guy (Gus) which is really pissing me off! Where is Clyde?

Absolutely. He is an excellent basketball guy. I think he is a very good analyst but not a color guy.

Gus & Kenny make a good team. They feed off of eachother.
Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

Kenny is horrible. He picks a point and says it over and over again for like 6 to 7 times in a span of 30 seconds.

I think Kenny is used to summing up a game at halftime on TNT rather than calling a game over the course of the game. He makes good points, but he does repeat himself. He'll get better.

I'm still cool with him, but it was funny when he said the same thing I pointed out he said in the yesterday's game against the Mavs about "not expecting shots to go in."
