Cuban: Ref should have tossed Taylor
BY GREG LOGAN
STAFF WRITER

January 12, 2006

After the Knicks' 117-115 overtime win last night, Dallas owner Mark Cuban complained about a third-quarter shoving match between the Knicks' Maurice Taylor and the Mavs' Jerry Stackhouse. Cuban said Taylor should have been ejected for pushing referee Tony Brown in an effort to get at Stackhouse.

"By the way everybody reacted, everybody knew there was a problem except for the official who got pushed," Cuban said. "I'm sure the league will take appropriate action after reviewing it. That's a huge play in this game to have a no-call."

Actually, the Mavs trailed by 12 at the time and came back to lead twice in the final 1:31 of regulation. Dirk Nowitzki had two chances to win it in regulation but couldn't make a foul-line jumper over 5-9 Nate Robinson or a desperation three at the buzzer.

We dominated them the whole game, by alot, they come back and we pull away again and we still get no respect for BEATING a team. Its disgusting. The players need to have this in the locker room to remember that they have not arrived, guys still have a bunch of excuses for why they lose.
No one ever gives us our props.

If the ref tossed Taylor then maybe Frye would get some PT.

I actually emailed Mark Cuban this morning and I guess I said enough about last night to get under his skin and he replied. Since then we've been arguing like little kids via email. He's actually really cool for responding, I told him I wish we had an owner that gave a crap about fans, even fans of other teams who are arguing with him. Go to the Mavs site and there's a link to email him.

Well I actually feel really bad about it. I deleted my very first email but luckily I had copied the last paragraph of it to post on K4L so I still had it on my clipboard:

"You want to see bad officiating? Look at the Cavs game. We got screwed at least twice every 6 minutes, AT LEAST. Did we bitch? Nope, we just played and proved we were the better team that night. So please, next time you want to cry about something, cry about how your franchise player doesn't play defense or something to that matter."

Yea... I'm a dickhead, I know. But I didn't think he would actually respond, or even read it for that matter. He responded with:

"you might want to watch again. I not only saw it. I confirmed it with
everyone sitting near the incident, including the media."

The rest of it is basically us arguing about whether or not Mo T meant to hit a ref (which I still haven't seen but Mark swears by it) but either way, we kept disagreeing until we couldn't disagree anymore. Then my last email was me telling him that even though I came off as ignorant, I really respect him and would love to have him as our owner.

Crash: I don't know if you followed up with Mark with this angle: MoT didn't go TO the ref and then make contact, the ref came over TO MoT and then there was contact. Big difference, and maybe why the ref gave the benefit of the doubt to the players. After all, if MoT didn't see the ref and maybe thought is was some random player, there is justification for pushing that person away.

Also, follow up and ask him why Dirk couldn't seal the game by hitting a 15 foot jump shot over a 5'9" player.

I actually did bring up the fact that the ref came to Mo T and there were alot of hands in there so he might have thought he was slapping another player's hand away and not the refs.

All he said to that was "I don't know what you watched on TV but what I saw was perfectly clear"

Mo Taylor is allways getting into a fight somehow. He is good for a shoving match with an opponent every few games.

Cuban whines like a beeyotch! Enough already! Get a tougher team that plays defense.
We could be the Dallas Mavs of the East.

Stackhouse is a dirty player, he Cuban knows it.

Stackhouse got away with a few pushoffs when guarded by Crawford which a couple of those resulted in fouls against Crawford, Stackhouse does the little things to fly under the radar with the refs, even the incident with Taylor, Stackhouse initiated the pushing, Cuban is only backing his player, but it's still a bunch of crap.

No suspension for Mo T.

http://www.nytimes.com/2006/01/13/sports/basketball/13knicks.html?pagewanted=all
Maurice Taylor's brief physical contact with a referee Wednesday did not merit any punishment, N.B.A. officials said Thursday. The incident occurred when the referee Tony Brown stepped between Taylor and Dallas guard Jerry Stackhouse, who were jawing at each other. After the game, the Mavericks' owner, Mark Cuban, angrily asserted that Taylor should have been given a technical foul for pushing Brown. After reviewing the play, league officials concluded otherwise. "There was no improper contact between Maurice Taylor and the game official," said Tim Frank, a league spokesman. ... Larry Brown's next victory will be his 1,000th as an N.B.A. coach. Only three others have won at least as many games: Lenny Wilkens (1,332), Don Nelson (1,190) and Pat Riley (1,120). "One of my coaches came up to me the other night and said how many I had," Brown said. "I started looking in December. You start thinking back, I'd be thrilled if we just won one game."
A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
