YOUR su york knicks
- your celebrities of choice...john mcenroe and kim catrall. mcenroe got a nice applause. kim catrall got a nice one also...accompanied by the obligatory "YEAHHHHHHHH" but the big beer bellied drunk dude within 5 seats of everybody. dad, sit down.
- shameless plug time as your friendly neighborhood dj was profiled on msg network's "nykway" in their season subscriber feature. yes, i stood there talking about being a knicks fan and talking about being in the arena for john starks "the dunk." so, if you get a chance, you can put a face to the handle and me check out on the latest installment of nykway on msgnetwork. (thanks to queeny for the hookup)
- on gardenvision...nothing of note other than a kid, about 7-8 years old being shown on the screen and dancing during a timeout. he was going buckwild and the crowd went nuts. there was a point in the game where we were inbounding in the 4th quarter and you may have heard a random LOUD applause, it was for the kid.
- first off, i was VERY excited to go to the game today. i expected a loss but with our recent play, like many others said, it's great times to be a knicks' fan again. i was going into the night expecting a hard fought game where dallas would make a late run and we would eventually lose a heartbreaker. 2nd night of a back to back AND playing an elite team doesn't bode well for YOUR su york knicks... (editor's note: oh dj, you DUMB bastard)
- it's a late arriving crowd but they were JACKED.
- before they announce the knicks lineup, they should a quick video thingy on gardenvision. usually it's this montage of old and new knicks players making baskets. they changed it up as they're showing clips of our players now along with newspaper clippings of the recent articles. kinda cool.
- during intros, nate again adds to the legacy as he puts the ball boy ON HIS BACK and walks out as he's introduced piggybacking the kid on his back all the way down the line.
- early lead in the 1st? what's going on here. when steph kind of dribbled on the elbow and kind of juked and pulled back on a jumper in the 1st quarter, and made it, the bench was laughing about it as antonio davis mimicked him juking with the ball and performing an "air jumper" ala steph. the guys around him were yukking it up as well. these guys are having fun now.
- david lee...EVERY TEAM...let me clarify that...EVERY CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM needs a player like david lee. on a side note, white boy...a pretty boy...playing for the knicks and doing well...you think he has any problems meeting any lady folk? david, one word of advice, wear a jimmy hat...WE DON'T WANT NO BABY MAMA DRAMA!!!
- 8 rebounds for nate robinson. let me repeat. 8 rebounds for the smallest man in the f'n league. he makes bad decisions. he's not a pg and he's not that smart a player but DAMN if i don't love him for this team. he brings this energy, this enthusiasm that's unbridled. his open 3 point shot is becoming dependable...and borderline automatic. he's a rookie and although he's just learning the nba now, i'm VERY excited about what he's going to become in this league with larry brown.
- btw, did i mention the crowd was jacked tonight?
- PA announcer: "in for dallas, number 2 keith van horn"
- msg crowd: "BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO"
- knicks go up big in the 1st half and get a well deserved standing ovation entering the lockerrom. but as i sit there...i KNOW what's going to happen...we all KNOW what's going to happen...
- the 2nd night of the back to back is starting to catch up as the energy starts to dip. dallas begins to double up full court and i keep wondering why nobody comes back and helps the ball handler? it stifled our offense.
- umm, how GOOD is devin harris? he's able to stay in front of any of our guys defensively and he's able to blow by each one as well. untouchable indeed.
- and speaking of untouchable...3 for 11 channing? what's up with that? brings his fg% down to something like 72.5% on the season. anything less than 11-13 or 10-14 nights are just unnaceptable. quick, d-league this scrub up. this kid does have an aire about him tho, doesn't he?
- your big game james moment of the game: as he's about to check in, a guy behind me says "man, jerome is big." yes he is my friend, yes he is. the legend grows...
- q1 is now back to basics and he's is all about defense and rebounding and just letting the offense come to him. he's been a MAJOR dissapointment...MAJOR but with all the circumstances, we just have to pull for him. i keep going back to robert horry...that's what he could be for us. his lack of production has been masked by our depth. everytime he gets subbed out, he goes to the bench, takes a seat, and the trainer puts ice on his back. everytime on the bench, his back is iced. WTF is that about? damaged goods. isiah traded for damaged goods as he was seduced by the nate pick.
- umm, is anybody noticing a new entrant in the 6th man of the year contest? and he's becoming an ALL AROUND player as his boards and assists are up as well. he has all the tools and he has, without a doubt, grown the MOST out of any player on this team. jamal is a keeper. he's 25 and has completely transformed himself into another player. he's showing moxy and leadership and likes to take the big shots. jamal crawford people...he's a...he's a HUS-TL-AH...
- i thought marbury for a bulk of the game was SUPERB. (i'm kinda saying that alot recently). SUPERB. he was picking his spots and just hitting shots. the first time dallas cut it to 8 in the 4th, he came right down and calmly hit a jumper to put the lead back up to 10. impressive. he had a bad 3 play stretch with the forced jumper and 2 to's. but outside of that, another good game. he keeps this up and i may want to keep him around till draft night.

- btw, did i mention the crowd was JACKED?
- our defense is still awful...absolutely awful. they ran like 10 pick and rolls IN A ROW in the 4th quarter and each and every time harris or terry just took it right to the hoop. and how many times were we caught in a switch with nate on dirk? but i will repeat what someone said to me tonight...and she's right...we are still making stops when we have to. and at the end of the day, for where we are as a team, i'll take it.
- eddy curry at the line...ICE. if we have to take a free throw at any point in the 4th quarter on, i want eddy curry taking them. he's silk.
- btw, mark cuban is jumping up and down after every call by the refs down the stretch of the game. one thing i always wondered, he's like mega rich and is always with the team. doesn't he have other business stuff to do elsewhere?
- knicks night MVP? AD. fossil. grandpa. old bastard. the tree dudes from lord of the rings. whatever you want to call him, it don't matter as he stepped up HUGE for us on the offensive boards and putbacks. don't expect it friday night...or possibly the rest of january but he was the reason we won tonight. good for him...better yet, good for us.
- in conclusion, i was in the camp that thought each and every win through the first four were important and quality b/c we were 7-21 before it began. i didn't think any of them were cheap. we played no defense in any of the games but willed ourselves to victory. tonight, on a 2nd night of a back to back, to be up early against an elite team, to blow the double digit lead, to TRAIL in the final minutes, but to still come back, tie it, take it to overtime and win it...well that's just IMPRESSIVE. this is how good teams win games on a back to back. are there still holes? hell yeah. but everyone is contributing. everyone. some guys are still learning and growing and that's cool too. all i know is that we're 5-0 this month...with a game friday vs. altanta. yeah, i can say i'm excited. this is the BIZARRO january as the script has been flipped from jan '05. i, as a fan, am entering phase 2...OPENING the kool aid packet. haven't poured it into the water or mixed it yet...but the POUCH IS OPEN.
