During last night’s game, I looked at the box score and noticed that we were way ahead of the Wizards in rebounds but unfortunately also in turnovers. This morning I decided to look at the Knicks team stats and see where we ranked in those and other areas compared to other teams in the league. Here’s what I found. For every category, there are three figures – our teams result, opposing teams result and the differential.
1) Rebounds – 3, 27, 1 2) Off Rebounds – 1, 25, 1 3) Turnovers – 1,6,1 4) Field Goal Pct – 20, 20, 22 5) Free Throw Pct – 21,21, 25 6) 3 Point Pct – 15, 8, 19 7) 3 Point Attempts – 29. 2, 30 8) Personal Fouls – 1, 1, 20 9) Assists – 26, 11, 29 10) Steals – 8. 13, 23 11) Blocks – 24, 7, 28
Conclusions – 1) We are a very good rebounding club – especially on the offensive boards. 2) We’re sloppy at protecting the ball. 3) We should improve our shot selection and need to force opponents to take bad shots. 4) Practice free throw shooting. 5) We’re not a good three point shooting team. We need to guard the perimeter better. 6) We draw a lot of fouls. We commit too many. 7) Pass the ball! 8) We’re not a good shot blocking team. Size hasn’t helped in that area.
