Anderson was coming off of a year averaging 9 points and 4 rebounds, and Eisley came off a year averaging 9 points and 3 and a half assists a came. Rice just didn't fit in with the Knicks, had been injured, and was often complaining about playing time. With that trade the Knicks should've gotten 2 players that would've played pivotal roles for a playoff team, but it was much different due to the JVG resignation and the Camby injuries. At the time it was a pretty good deal, in hindsight, it doesn't look too good. Too bad Layden doesn't have a crystal ball to look into the future with.
Look, Anderson is a good player especially the way he plays on defense but i personally don't think he should be getting 7 yrs for 42m or 45m. HELL NO!!! You give that money to a player who starts and whose bonifide. Eisley isn't so bad of a PG. but C"MON not for 45m for 7 yrs. Knicks just luv to throw money around with long term contracts and it will catch them eventually. The probelm with the knicks is giving players huge contracts when you know they won't play to it. RIce's stock wasn't so bad so the knicks should've went for size instead. Lj and Longley retired, Camby already to start the season on the injured list. The knicks went to being the smallest team in the NBA. When Layden took the job, he may not have a crystal ball o look into the future but he certainly is aware of how eventually the NBA's economic system would affect most teams especially the top payroll teams like the knicks.
