would never happen - Sabas wants to play for only Portland and Portland does not need our crappy 12th man, Travis Knight, nor another backup PG in Ward, as Damon and Pippen handle the pill for portland, that's why they let Greg Anthony walk. Also, they don't want or need Harrington - They have Rasheed, Dale Davis, Zach Randolph and S. Kemp at the 4 spot already. And Randolph is a beast.
Portland does not want to help our team out, we are trading enemies, unfortunately.

If portland felt they weren't able to re-sign Sabonis why wouldn't they look to deal him, every other team in the league has been doing it.

You ask "why wouldn't they look to deal him" ?
Simple answer : Sabonis is a free agent so he can't be traded just like this. Any sign and trade must have his approval first. And as someone already said here before, Sabonis said he will only play for Portland if he returns for another season
