Before the Knicks are back amongst the elite. Someone made a post about '08 being the year that several contracts run out. A few things have to happen in order for the knicks to right the ship.
1. Knicks should just ride it out and let some of these contracts run out: Penny and Davis are up this summer. Taylor is done next summer and I believe Houston, Anderson and JYD are also done in summer of 07.
2. I like Marbury, but if were serious about rebuilding, Marb may be on the decline by the time we right this ship. Plus, he's the only one with any value. Yes he has a huge contract, but he's still a top PG. The way Houston is struggling, maybe we could swing a deal with them for some draft picks. We desperatly need picks to rebuild. And moving his contract would be huge in getting us under the cap.
3. Hope and pray that Curry and especially, Frye, develop into big time players. At least one of them (perhaps Curry) should be able to develop into an allstar while the other (Frye) can develop into a borderline allstar.
4. This is the longest of long shots, but hope that either Q-Woods or ariza can develop into legit starters. Q-Woods has the most potential. He was being hailed as the next T-mac when he entered the draft. From what I've seen, Q needs to seriously work on his handle. He has the size and stregnth (6'8 220) to be legit, but needs confidence and a handle. All the good wings in this league can get to where the wanna get to on the court becaue of their advanced ball handling. Lebron, Vince, Kobe, T-mac etc. He has a nice form on his shot (far better than ariza at this point) he just needs confidence.
5. Hope Crawford develops into a more consistant player and ask his good friend Curry to loan him about 10-12 pounds. Crawford has all the skills you need to be a good player in this league (handle, nice stroke, confidence) he just needs to take better shots which he has for the most part under Brown, just needs more muscle to challenge the stronger 2 guards.
Ultimately, the Knicks actually have some of the pieces they need to be good, they just to develop them. Also export bad contracts don't import anymore and try to get a few picks and maybe, just maybe by 08 we might have somehting to work with.
