I see posters saying "Marbury is not a leader" and not to expect leadership from him. If Stephon Marbury, arguably the Knicks biggest star, is not the leader, who is?

It seems to me that the Knicks lack that one guy who just hates to lose, who can will his team to win.

exactly... that guy who puts his team on his back, plays hard every game, hits big shots, has pride & sets a tone for the younger complimentary players. Can't get any guys like that for the MLE

This is what I've been saying for the past 2 weeks. Your right, Marbury isn't the leader. You know who it is? Neither do I and neither does anyone on the Knicks. I really think this is why the Knicks have headed as far south as they have because there is no player that the players can look to for support and there isn't that one guy that can gather the troops and get everyones head out of their ass and to start playing harder. Kurt Thomas was someone who was good at that, I don't want him back but I'm just using him as an example. If KT were still here, he'd be the unquestioned Knicks leader. Many teamates hated Michael Jordan on the basketball court because he rode his teamates, every last one of them to be the best that they could be and they saw him trying his very best and that made them not to want let MJ down. The Knicks don't have any leader who examplifies any of those things I mentioned, not one iota.

Most fans in any sport usually expect the teams highest paid player to be that leader but it doesn't always work like that. Guys like Ken Griffey Jr(pre injuries) and Stephon Marbury get ripped by their fans because they are all-star calibur players and the highest paid player on their team but aren't leaders, they'd rather lead by example.

The Knicks will flounder until they bring in a player that can ride these guys, they will flounder until a player comes in and gets the other players to bust their butts, until then enjoy the circus.

Avery Johnson was the undisputed leader of the Spurs championship team that had David Robinson and Tim Duncan. The most talented sales person in a company may be the worst manager. Leadership is a quality that is independent of talent. Ideally you want your leader to be the best player but it is not necessity. Leadership is determined by who the players decide to follow. Steph has proven to be incapable of inspiring teammates to greatness. This does not make him a bad guy or a guy that should be jettisoned for no reason, it just means the Knicks need to find a leader or have someone step up and become one.

I think Craw does a great job of stepping up and being a leader when he is in garbage time running with the youngins. But for the rest of the game he does not lead. He is still learning. Not sure who else can step up.

The leader of the Knicks will be a guy that "gets" LB's system right away without hesitation. It's tough to lead the team and trumpet what the coach is saying when you don't know what he is saying.

Frye and Davis appear to be the only guys that understand it, but unfortunately Frye is not ready to take the lead and Davis is on the downside.

if we are trading marbury not only do we need someone who can orchestrate an offense but we desperately need someone who can take over a game on a consistent basis. No one on this team other than Marbury can. Every good team has at least 2-3 guys like that

From all current Knicks roster I can see only 2 players with leadership skills - Fry and Lee.
I am not sure how they will progress as a players.
But you can see by the way they play and behave on the bench and off the court that they will be a solid characters.
But this is the future. And I am not sure that they will stick with this franchise doomed by the ownership of advertising empire. It is everything fake in their house...

Whose our leader?

Larry Brown.
DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.

Marbury was never a leader throughout his NBA career. Whats worse is the knicks don't have one at all..

We won't have one for awhile..

I was just posting in the "turmoil" thread about leadership before i saw this but i completely agree.
AD & Rose in my opinion are the ones who need to rise up to become the leaders of this team because they already have respect and acceptance from LB. AD displayed his disgust of losing last night on the court when he fouled Tony Parker. LB simply loves these two. They have the experience and strong characters it takes to demand respect from the others. Marbury CAN NOT be this for us now, or perhaps ever, because it is clear LB does not hold him in the same regard as he does AD & Rose. Moreover Marbs has too much baggage which clearly make everyone question his every move...its no different for his team mates.
