Again it's been 2 years. You have guys on our bench that can be traded. Zeke has done a great job on the draft. Curry is 22, what if he turns into a monster? Too many ifs for me to think it's bleak. Curry has as much chance to turn into a monster as Rudy Gay and Morrison and all these guys in the draft. Yet everyone wants the guys in the draft. Everyone knows I love Rudy Gay but this guy hasn't even learned how to lead his college team yet. Why is he an automatic given to turn the franchise around but Curry is a chump. If Curry was in college he'd be dominating right now and everyone would be crying because we don't have a lottery pick to draft him. Does anyone understand what I'm saying?
yup, if curry becomes a monster, then it's all gravy. key word being IF. i can only speak for myself but i realize that in the position our roster and cap were in when isiah got here, he had to take risks on guys like jamal and eddy b/c that's the quickest way to get young potential talent here. but at the same time, are we close to putting all our eggs into one basket? meaning that IF things don't work out with eddy, do we still have a "recovery" plan like you said? i don't know. all i know is that we've gone from a gm that makes ALL bad moves to one that makes a good one followed up by a bad one. that, to me, delays the process.
it's very easy to look at the roster and see how far we've come in terms of youth and potential but that doesn't mean that they'll actually BE better than the old dogs that were here before them. will jamal ever be as solid or consistent over the long haul like charlie ward? will eddy curry average 10 boards a game every night like kurt and anchor the center spot defensively? now ward and kurt were old dogs and we were losing with them BUT they still were consistent and now, we're actually losing MORE than them. but the potential is there but i'm not one to say, holy crap, look at the AMAZING job isiah has done. AMAZING is what pheonix did. they dumped over $100 mil in salaries to bounce back the next year to win 60 games. we keep taking on over $100 mil in salaries and it's OK b/c of what "mess" layden left us with. an argument could be made that we may have been better off keeping the picks and ADDING them to the veteran lineup we already had, won MORE in the process while still building a solid young core. i don't know, i'm all over the place with this but at the end of the day, we spend alot of money (that i know alot of you don't care about), we gave up alot of picks coming up, and nothing's changed in terms of W's and L's. but i'm willing to wait...but i'm not going to wait by "appreciating" what we have when it may not amount to crap...
