Has anyone ever had those impressive career stats and yet lost as much as Steph?

took the words right out of my mouth. Now that we're trying to do things differently so that we win games in the near future his numbers are way down

different sport. you can't rely on 1 guy to win in football because you need a good defense, good RB, good offensive line etc. You can't win in the NBA with 1 player either but you can add a guy or 2 to get you over the hump. Problem is we don't have the capspace

How about Elton Brand? Actually, I'm sure there are many players who have put up impressive stats and made the playoffs fewer than Steph's four times and/or not won series. People mention Steph's scoring and assists but equally impressive are the number of games and minutes played per season. He plays through injury, pain, and illness (including the flu), which he wouldn't do if he were the stat slut some say he is. No doubt, he has to win playoff series if he wants to become a hall-of-famer, though.

there's a long history of fans and reporters blaming the best players on a team for the team's fortunes.

What about KG?. He has put up impressive numbers over the yrs but has nothing to show for it.

Barkley, Ewing, there are a number of others, or does this all just apply to PG's named Marbury?

KG ONCE made it out of the first round in his ten or eleven NBA seasons. In the minds of many, that excuses him from every conceivable criticism that Marbury could receive for lack of playoff success.

Sorry, the comparison is absurd, both Barkley and Ewing were MVP type players who enjoyed far more personal and team success than Marbury, even at the same stage of their careers. Just look at the numbers, team records, and playoff records.

No doubt, he has to win playoff series if he wants to become a hall-of-famer, though.

It's going to take a lot more than winning a couple of playoff series to get Marbury anywhere near the hall of Fame, unless you mean the Lincoln High School hall of Fame.

Good luck Mike D'Antoni, 'cause you ain't never seen nothing like this before!

Perhaps, but you can't compare some of the teams that both Barkley and Ewing had to what Steph has had. Oh he's had a few decent teams, but they've all been teams with a guy who would eventually become a stud, but it was early in their career. KG, KMart, Amare. Heck even on this team with Curry & Frye. If we keep him and this team adds the needed help and those guys develop we may yet see success for Steph in NY.

Steph's numbers don't look so great tonight - sure, he got 21 points, but he had 4 turnovers and 4 assists.

In fact, the Knicks as a team had 16 turnovers and 12 assists. I'm no expert, but isn't it kinda bad when you have more turnovers than assists?

And what's with letting the other team score 122 points? At least they were playing some defense earlier in the season.

https:// It's not so hard.

Well, let's examine: Did Ewing ever play with a player as good as Garnett, Marion or Stoudamire? Allan Houston was the most help Ewing ever got and Ewing was breaking down at that time. The Oakleys, Masons and the Starks of the world became much better players from Ewing's presence.

Barkley played one season with Dr. J, he had a pretty good team in Phoenix (KJ, Majerle), but the best help he ever had was when he played for Houston with Hakeem and Scottie, but Barkley was well into his twilight.

In any case Marbury can't hold Ewing's or Barkley's shorts so the comparison is not apt. Those guys made the players around them better, and were already in the Hall of Fame for all intents and purposes by the time they were Marbury's age.

Marbury's ego has screwed him out of having good teams. He had a pretty good team with Jayson Williams and Keith Van Horn, but his big head ruined that (Literally, by breaking William's leg with it.) and by running Van Horn out of town--twice.
