1. Pass out of the post when you are doubled- someone is open, pass the f%cking rock!! You can be just as effective passing as you can be scoring, AND it will make it harder for them to double you if you pass the ball more.

2. Learn how to get position for/accept an entry pass- as big as you are, you do not use your body well at all to get positon or accept the pass. This is probably the same poor use of his size that hurts you on the glass. I didn't like Steph getting upset with you, but goddamn EDDY! Shield the rock with your body already, thats big man 101!

3. You have 2 hands, use BOTH of them. You are only 6 feet away from the basket, develop a move with your left hand, or at least a move to the basket going left wher you can dunk it or go up with 2 hands. They already know you are moving right, they overplay the right and you STILL go right!!! WTF!!!!

4. You are quick, agile, strong, and large. There is not another player in the league with that combination, use it to your advantage. You've got Jamaal 'Lead foot' Magloire on you. Spin around him and get to the rim. No hooks, get by him, you can do it everytime!!!!! With quicker players, use strength, or width, just dont tackle them.

5. go to the rim strong-You rarely finish after contact because you are not going aggressively. Steph is like half your size and finishes often after contact without the whistle because he goes hard. Who is gonna wanna get in your way if you go hard? No one. Jerome James maybe, but he really ought to be a wrestler. Hold the rock tightly and go up like you mean business. Guys will get the message and clear out of your way, or just blatantly foul you where the ref will HAVE to call it. Its a win-win!

6. Work on them free throws. You are not Shaq-like enough for us to forgive you for your horrible FT shooting. You've got a soft touch, use it at the line.......please.

You showed some nice footwork in the paint last night. That alley-oop pass was a high degree of difficulty and you still slammed it. But you could make the game easier for yourself, your teammates and the NY Knick fans, if you would simply focus on some very fundamental things. Please Eddy, I BELIEVE IN YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!

curry is a project. there's no other way to say it. it's like with jamal. they're both $55+ mil lottery picks. they have a long way to go in their development. they have some good skill now and from time to time, you get some real nice flashes but at the end of the day, they're still in the beginning stages of their development. it's going to take some time with curry to become the player he should be...IF that's in the cards. it's really all on him.

I agree strongly with 1,2,3, 5 and 6. and 4 I just agree with. He really doesn't understand how to use his body to set up moves, rebound or accept a pass to the post. That being said, very few 22 year olds who weren't Tim Duncan know how so I'm just going to stew in my own frustration and be patient. That's why all players should go to college. High schoolers simply don't know how to play the game.

You know what Bip?

You're right, he's like a rookie out of a bad college. Thats how I'll look at him from now on. I just hope he is learning those things, and really working on them.

That's the biggest question Killa4luv. Is he working on them? We all are keeping our fingers crossed. When Nate said guys were coming early and staying late for practice I was praying he was one of them.

Killa4Luv, this is why i posted that thread last week on how he's been a disappointment.. I won't be surprised if he doesn't progress.. He's just not a smart b-ball player. For the rest of his b-ball career, he'll either be injured, lazy or lack of conditioning ..

You have improved in this area Eddy and guess what? You are being double teamed because of it. Previously you let one player deny you the pass. Now it takes 2 players before you even get the rock. Keep it up, you are making the game easier for everyone.
4. You are quick, agile, strong, and large. There is not another player in the league with that combination, use it to your advantage. You've got Jamaal 'Lead foot' Magloire on you. You have improved in this area to Eddy. Getting by, and around guys as opposed to running through them. You havent had an offensive foul with the ball in your hands for quite some time. I've noticed, Keep it up!!

5. go to the rim strong-You rarely finish after contact because you are not going aggressively. Steph is like half your size and finishes often after contact without the whistle because he goes hard. You haven't been going up like SHaq, but you have been converting more, and we appreciate it! Keep up the good work, but go up harder. Less reverse layups, you are not a swing man. Just go up and try to pull the freaking rim down. Guys will get the message and move out of your way.
6. Work on them free throws. You are not Shaq-like enough for us to forgive you for your horrible FT shooting. You've got a soft touch, use it at the line.......please.
GREAT FREAKING JOB!!!!!! You were cold as ice against Phoenix AND against Dallas. You are starting to really come through for us, during the game and in the clutch!! Its beautiful man.
But you could make the game easier for yourself, your teammates and the NY Knick fans, if you would simply focus on some very fundamental things. Please Eddy, I BELIEVE IN YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ditto.

Now all you have to do is:
A. Recognize the delayed double team and kick it out. Pass the rock, you draw way too much attention on offense to have 6 assists on the season.
B. Go to your left (or at least fake left).

Once you master that you and in turn the Knicks, will become an elite team.

Great Post Killa,

I made a similar point about Curry in another thread. It seems as though he doesn't have confidence in his left hand. Defenders overplay him over his left shoulder anticipating a righty-hook. If he doesn't wnat to shoot with his left, then he needs to get deep position in the paint. That way, when he recieves the ball, and the defender is overplaying his right hand, with deep position, all he has to do is turn over his right shoulder and simply dunk it with his left or lay it off the glass. Shaq did the same thing about four times agaist the Warriors the other night. Deep position helps you avoid throwing up a lefty-hook. Just turn and dunk or lay it in.
"Man, who knows with this team." Aguirre.

Excellent observations by all! I feel the same way about Eddy. This is where Mark Aguirre has got to really roll up his sleeves and earn his paycheck. I said so in my "obvious problems" post on nbawire.com back on 12/27/05. I felt that way then, and though he's shown some improvement since then, I still feel that way now. He's made nice strides at the FT line especially, which was necessary because the big fella is gonna go there often, but his overall game needs work. Going left, passing out of the double team, footwork, coming up with a few go-to pet moves and eliminating stupid obvious offensive fouls like swinging his elbows into his man's face (can't do anything about the damn flops if the refs are gonna continually fall for them which annoys the hell outta me, but I think the flop calls going against Eddy to a certain extent stem from his reputation with the refs as well as everyone else for being lazy, not in condition and easy to guard with regard to the lack of variety he's showing the opponent - therefore the refs probably have in the back of there minds while Eddy's making his move, 'heavy contact, it's got to be Eddy's fault...' - Eddy's got to show these refs too that his game is progressing in order to get some of these borderline calls to go his/our way) - they are all valid points and are all areas Mark Aguirre has got to work on with Eddy. I think Sweetney made nice strides under Aguirre and I'm looking for the same with Curry. All of these little things are 100% correctable. Eddy Curry has a chance to be a very special player in this league and I think Aguirre's the key.

Very good thread and good follow up. Regarding moving to his left, that sounds like something that he'll have to work on in the off-season. Regarding passing out of the double team, that will probably come slowly to him. He's not a quick learner, but he's serious about his game, so I think he'll continue to improve.

Question:

Does Eddy's contract allow him to opt out? When?

i think he has an opt-out after 4 years...but each year on the contract is sort of incentive based (games played, etc.)

Eddie does have an opt out. I think it is after 3 years, but I could be mistaken.
