When we are playing so inconsistently and losing, isn't it better to get away from our home fans and play on the road? Is it really an advantage to play at home and know that you will get booed very quickly if you start playing poorly? Is that too much pressure for our very sensitive team? Also, don't other teams love to come in the Garden and kick us while we are down while making sure to play their best ball on the big New York stage? It would actually be a home court advantage if the fans really were happy with our team and if the opposition actually was intimidated by us, but it seems it is almost exactly the opposite--Knicks fans are tired of watching losing basketball and other teams eat up the chance to show off their stuff in the Garden.

Nope, the officiating is almost always against you on the road.

I guarantee if we are losing tomorrow, the game thread will have posts saying how the Knicks are getting screwed by the refs...I think losing makes you look for those kinds of excuses. But why would refs be making calls in favor of the home team?

Maybe, but they will likely have been screwed less than they would have on the road.

Simple, the NBA is entertainment. Fans want to see their home team win.

We have to make the Garden an advantage for us. When we play well, we have the building behind us. Keeps confidence up, and with this team, confidence can make a big impact. Of course if you play bad anywhere, you're going to get booed, that's just fact.

So the game is rigged? I don't think so.

I wouldn't say rigged, but at times I agree that calls can be a little biased, edging along a dramatic ending.

I know the officials try to make the game flow as much as possible and let the action happen as naturally as possible--so they probably can't help giving the team with the momentum and the crowd behind them some calls.

Not just that, but you can see officials making some 'questionable' calls that alone stop a team from ever really putting a run together.

Still, I don't think officiating gives the home team a significant advantage.

3-3 at home and 3-10 on the road. It's a small sample so far but I can't think of good reasons to go against the norm and predict that the team won't have a better home than road record.

I think we will be around .500 at home which indicates that it's not that big of an advantage for us.

FWIW, Isola was on MSG and said that most coaches around the league think the Knicks are much better than their record.

Come on! It's called "home cooking" It doesn't guarantee the home team a win, but it helps.

They won 54% at home last year and are a better team with a better coach this year. I'd expect them to finish better than .500 this year at home.

A little above yes but I think people make too big a deal out of it, as if we are a much better team playing at home.

Try predicting our record on the road, then compare that with our predicted record at home. Then tell me that home court isn't an advantage for us. For whatever reason-- refs, crowd, comfort, whatever-- teams play better at home. Here's a good homework problem for you-- find the last NBA team that had a better road record than home record. For bonus points, tell us the percentage of all NBA teams over the last 5 years that had a better road record than home record.

Teams do play better at home, but if you're a crappy team, it won't make you that much better.
