Since (a) I think the Knicks will improve as the season goes on, especially considering 70% of their games have been on the road and (b) next year's draft is expected to be weak, let's take a generous (to the Bulls) approach and say we might lose out on drafting a guy in the mid to late lottery of Andrei Igoudala's calibre. I really don't see the unprotected draft pick yielding a player higher than that. What would you rather have Sweetney and someone of Igoudala's calbire or Curry? It's not a black and white issue because Sweetney and Iggy are nice prospects. However, I'd still take Curry because he has far higher upside and I think he'll have a decent chance of reaching it with Aguire, Brown, and Isiah working with him in during the year and more importantly over the offseason.

all we can talk about is giving up the pick. we have no idea where it will be or what will happen. if curry can no longer play b/c of his heart or he turns out to be nothing more than he is right now, maybe giving up an unprotected #1 wasn't that bright an idea. but if curry turns into a monster than who gives a f ck.

right now, all we know is we gave up the pick and i don't think it can be fully assessed on what we actually gave up until a few years down the road.

it's just another high risk acquisition by isiah. some don't like taking these type of risks, some don't mind it.

all i know is that if we don't make the playoffs, and we end up getting the #1 pick and have to give it to chicago, isiah, like others have mentioned, will have a HARD time talking his way out of that one and may be the straw that broke the camel's back.

on the flip side, if we make the playoffs and are perennial 2nd round or better playoff team with curry being a big part of it, then the pick would be trivial.

take your pick.

right now, nobody is right or wrong.

We have a solid chance of taking the atlantic and giving Chicago something closer to the 16th pick in a weak draft. An extreme pessimist might say we're gonna not only miss the playoffs but also win the lottery. I was trying to take more of a "middle-of-the-road" (but still somewhat harsh on the Knicks) perspective

I understand your view but I think you can at least evaluate the odds of different scenarios occuring and decide whether or not including the unprotected pick versus requiring lottery protection but giving up more to get that protection is worthwhile. That's exactly what GMs HAVE to do before completing trades.

Would I trade Curry for Sweetney and Igoudala? Yes. Frye/Butler/James IMO would be a decent center rotation and Igoudala would bring a lot of what we're missing at the 3 position, and both players are young. I like Curry, but his future upside could be limited by his inability to stay on the floor for long stretches. That can be fixed, but a lot of big men come through the league and don't get over that kind of problem.

Now, do I think our draft pick will yield a player the caliber of Igoudala? No.

Iggy's nice but I don't value a swing man like him *that* much. I think an SG/SF one notch below him is available for the MLE every year like Gerald Wallace, Marquis Daniels. And I don't think any huge impact big men will be available with our pick unless we win the lottery (and even then I haven't heard much about huge impact big men in the 2006 draft).

it was mentioned before but we essentially bid against ourselves. it's always about now and not about long term. the only option chicago and curry had was to re-sign for the qualifying offer and then becoming unrestricted next summer. but we HAD to get curry now regardless of what we give up. so we gave up picks. all of this AFTER the jerome james signing. so you could say that impatience on isiah's part may be the reason we gave up more than we should have. i know, he's a 22 year old center. i know. he could be a monster. i know. BUT if he wanted to be a knick, we would've figured out a way to get him next summer. either via the full mle or a sign and trade where we didn't have to give up a ton of picks b/c chicago would be painted in a corner.

again, high risk and this is the position isiah has put us in. we decided not to pare down payroll so he's spending money but the results aren't there yet. so he's getting a little desperate for results, hence the jerome james signing. and now, giving up so many picks in the eddy deal. and this could all explode in our faces and set us back even further aka what isles has been saying.

hey, if eddy is 20/10 and a key piece to our deep playoff runs, then it's all good but the rationale behind giving up what we did is a bit off.

Igoudala is a 21 year old high % shooter, high caliber defender, well built SF and is more than a few notches above Wallace and Daniels.

I doubt our pick would be in a position to draft Rudy Gay or Adam Morrison, or even Ronnie Brewer for that matter, so I'm not too worried.

Let's hope not, but the way things have been going we could be in line for a top 5 pick and then that would be a problem.

The thing is we have a new system and 70% of our games have been road games. You have to take that into consideration when viewing our record.

Agreed 100%. Also we have not had back to back home games yet.Something like 19 out of the next 25 games are home. Things will get better. I definitely rather have curry vs, the other package. We also weren't just bidding against ourselves. The Lakers wanted him and who knows who else. The pick we gave up might not even be as good as iggy. The trade really was a no brainer as far as long term.

fishmike 9/27/2024 11:00 PM Ug I hate this. The idea of Towns is great until you see what a pussy he is. Jules is a dog. DD was a flamethrower locked up cheap for 3 more years. First Leon move I hate

Believe me I am considering everything when making my statement, the thing I hope it doesn't come true, I want this team to succeed but at this time, and considering the inconsistent play of the team it could be conceivable we end up as a top 5 lottery team, this is something I wish not to happen.

Iggy might have more upside because he's younger but right now there's no doubt that Gerald Wallace is a better player than (the younger) AI. Gerald is a better scorer and he's a steal and shot-blocking machine for an SG/SF.

Wallace is inconsistent. Igoudala has the makings of a true all-star. He does every facet of the game very well.

Iguodola is a grat team player, but there are guys who came out of that draft who have higher caliber upsides--if we discount the top 4 picks guys like Harris Jefferson Deng are guys with suprstar qualities. I think Andre is a step below those types of players. Hes a great team player with a multi-dimensional game, but those other guys have higher potential.
