i think we have a gentleman's agreement with AD that we won't trade him but will waive him if he still wants to leave by mid january. this way, he can wait the 30 days and re-sign with chicago while still being eligible for their playoff roster.

i think they're just waiting to move some of these guys so they can activate lee and get him some burn as well. i think he's a big part of the plans for the future of this team.

and if we can't make a firesale deal, i think penny will get bought out after the deadline.

My gut disagrees, my gut tells me I should stop eating vegetarian burritos from Chipotle. But everything else sounds plausible.

This isn't charity. I don't think we would have fined him earlier this season if they had an agreement.

LOL. I thought you liked the JC addition and at least didn't hate the Marbury deal. Maybe you changed your mind again.

LOL! Way to avoid the issue. I do find it an odd contradiction that you like the players we add in deals with expiring contracts but you devalue expiring contracts. You obviously didn't want to discuss anything basketball related based on your reply, though. What's your favorite color?

We had 1 trade involving one of our players with a HUGE expiring contract, and that was the Stephon Marbury trade when we gave up Dice AND Ward. All of our other expiring contracts have been small. If we trade both Penny and AD, we'll be picking up so much salary it wont be worth it to the team unless it's for a real star. We could use a small foward and another point, but who's out there? Indiana ain't dealing with us, so cross out Artest. There aren't many excess baggage guys worth for us to go after.

the inconsistency in your posts since you (a) devalue expiring contracts and (b) appear to like the players we've gotten where expiring contracts were crucial components of the deals.
I was really hoping you'd answer my question about your favorite color.

The Chicago trade was $11 mil in expiring contracts. You could have substituded AD's one expiring contract (if we had him at the time and it was expiring) and the trade still would have worked. You can use each of the two big expiring contracts to get a young player with upside like Jamal was at 24 (and still is) plus a role player with a bad contract like JYD. Isiah could pull off two of those types of trades or could do one bigger trade. There are many great options with the expiring contracts and the *potential* to add other young players if the deal is appealing. Many of those options disappear if you take Fish's suggestion of just waiving AD now. Isiah's obviously too smart to do that.

maybe this will help you, as you clearly haven’t gotten to this subject in your PHD curriculum.
Lets say I love apple pie and pumpkin pie. My wife goes out and buys me one of each. I eat them. I enjoy them. Then I find out each cost $2500 each and she sold my car to buy the pies. I say "gee, hon... That’s a really lame deal."
She says "your really inconsistent. You always say how much you like pie."

See? I like JC a lot and Marbury is ok in his own right. Both were expiring contract deals for veteran players. Has either of those trades made us better? Have they created more flexibility moving forward? Have the teams we traded clearly benefited more than we have?

So far Isiah’s expiring contract deals haven’t yielded much have they?

Your analogy certainly fails in the JC deal. How did we overpay for JC when all we gave up were uneccessary players with expiring deals and we took back JC and an overpaid but excellent role player for one season? Or was it just a pointless analogy that doesn't apply to recent cases of expiring contract deals?
