swiped this from realgm's board the night we signed the franchise...the savior...the big game jerome james. i felt we needed some time for some reflection as the big game starting in seattle tonight seems to be in the cards.
Poor bastards...but who among us can't empathize a little bit? Then again, it's one thing for the Sonics to be fooled into paying James $5 million a year. It's another thing for another team to look at James and what he did with Seattle, and then pay him an average of about $6 million a year.

What a terrible signing. I'm happy for Jerome, though. He plays good for one playoff series against a center with a broken leg and parlays it into a cool $29 million.

Why in God's name would you trade Nazr Mohammed midseason, only to replace him with Jerome?

----

Jerome is going to wilt under the pressure of MSG...

I can seriously picture Jerome actually reverting next year, even though he showed such a strong playoff outing.

The only saving grace is that Jerome may want to try so hard to impress NY fans that he actually puts in some bonafied work this summer....however now that he has his contract, what does he have to prove? This is his last big contract... I am more prone to think he will just be content with his 6 mill a year and call it a day...

Wait till he gets hold of MSG fans, they make Seattle critiquers look like Mr Rogers...

----

ahahaha

Are there performance bonuses for every foul?

-----

you knicks fans do realize you signed a 7'+ center who has 160 career regular season starts and only TWO career double doubles?

i can't believe he got a contract this large. wow.

-----

seven feet of crap is still crap. so the knicks are paying james $30M to start for only two years of his five year deal? as has been mentioned, just the kind of thing the current knicks are apt to do.

i don't see how the presence of frye could rationalize this move. did you watch the spurs-sonics series? nazr had a free pass to the basket every possession against james. what's he going to teach frye?

james is already developed. he's almost 30, he hasn't had a season better than 5 points/4 rebounds. and he's had every chance to perform for the sonics on either end of the court.

and if jack sikma can't teach you, i don't think anyone could.

----

He will piss off New York.

You will see flashes of greatness...that gives you hope..followed up with whole lot of crap.

He is going to get bashed in the media.

-----

All I can say is best of luck to all the NY fans watching Jerome...it's torture most of the time. Have fun with that.

I can't believe Jerome would go to NYC of all places...he's going to get booed out of town. Then again, he was just looking for the "right" person to throw their money away on him. Hopefully he'll be rolling into town with that black plastic garbage bag he had around him after the playoffs series against the Kings. That way all the knicks have to do is throw his @ss in the trash when they're done with him.

----

Well maybe, but how many times in the past has a player, previously described as an "intriguing physical specimen," had a few good playoff games and parlayed it into a huge contract? Plenty of times. Teams say "ooh, the potential was always there, and now he's starting to live up to it." And absolutely every time, without exception, the player reverts to his old form, and becomes an albatross contract with his new organization. James is this year's intriguing physical specimen, following the footsteps of Devean George, Tyronn Lue, Eddie Robinson, Shandon Anderson and our very own Calvin Booth. Sure, there's a chance that a journeyman can have a career renaissance and become a better player after age 30 than he was beforehand -- worked for Jamie Moyer, right? -- but for a seven-foot basketball player relying on his physical "tools," I don't think the odds are that good.

it's just Big Game not the big game

Isiah won't be here much longet at this rate. for every good move like drafting Frye and trading for Crawford you can't make 5 other horrendous moves just for the sake of making a move

wouldn't put too much stock in those quotes. Nobody that has watched Jerome James for the previous 4-5 years has more basket-ball IQ than Isiah.

the stop underrating David Lee movement 1. FIRE MIKE 2. HIRE MULLIN 3. PAY AVERY 4. FREE NATE!!!

Sounds like he'll get an arrousing Standing O when he enters that basketball court tonight. Maybe he'll start too.

James is funny though:

From: www.dimemag.com/smack_sub.asp?id=2061

...Jerome James is one funny dude; we’re just not sure if he’s trying to be. In an article we saw yesterday, Jerome had this line about missing Seattle: "I wish I could have been (there) to help Robert Swift out a little more. He looks like he needs it." Then James had this one about playing PF next to Eddy Curry: "I’ll go out and defend the fours. I’m not looking to score 20 points, but I am looking to get 10 blocks, 10 rebounds and six fouls." Finally, here is Jerome’s response to the criticism he’s taken in New York: "It’s early. Before it’s all over, they will be chanting my name and lifting me up on their shoulders and carrying me around the building."
