To start. I want Marbury to stay. I think having a player as talented as Steph can only be a good thing. He picks up the slack on scoring, his defense is coming on in leaps and bounds. He is getting his teammates involved as best he can, and most of all, he is trying his damndest to succeed. This is simply a hypothetical question.

Would this team get better should Marbury leave?

I'm not taking into account whoever he would be traded for as we cannot predict that. But with Marbury gone our team would rest on the shoulders of Jamal Crawford. Our best 5 would be

Jamal
Q
Rose
Frye
Curry

with

Nate
Penny
Ariza
AD
James

as the next 5.

People have been saying for years that teams get better when Steph leaves. Most of that is probably circumstance, but maybe it has something to do with the role Steph has in the team.

So, if Steph leaves, would we struggle, or survive?

I think we would sink like a rock.

I don't really know. I don't want him to leave, but... I'm not sure we would sink without him.

We barely made the playoffs with a sub .500 record, got swept in the playoffs, won 33 games last year and are 5-12 this season. Can we really get any worse?

Besides who else is dumb enough to take on that contract for a loser like Marbury? Only one person on earth is that stupid and he's the GM that already has him. Good thing he also gave up 2 1st rounders and took back Penny and his huge contract in the deal too. I can only imagine the laughter that was going on in the Suns front office after that trade was made official.
If it didn’t work in Phoenix with Nash and Stoutamire... it’s just not a winning formula. It’s an entertaining formula, but not a winning one. - Derek Harper talking about D'Antoni's System

The Knicks would sink unless they got back an equal or better scorer.

yeah, and when they gave away the 2004 pick so the Jazz would take Gugliotta off their hands, they must have been laughing too. they must have laughed their butts off when they realized Vuja was never coming to America and there must have been a few hearty guffaws when they realized Lampe sucked, too. I bet the laughing never ends in Phoenix.

I wonder how much they laughed when Nash won less games against the Spurs in the playoffs than Marbury did with an underdeveloped Amare? That must have drawn an ironic chuckle, at least.

I'd rather see this team do well with Stephon HERE.

Those who hate him being here won't be happy no matter WHO we get.
Let the little girls cry. Haters don't matter!
Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!
