Throwing out Buter and Frye would've been a mistake. Butler can't even crack the rotation now as a backup, even though I still think he can have a promising career ahead of him, and Frye-even Zeke said it-is a PF.

I also wanted Diop but if I recall he flat out rejected us too (I think I am not too sure).

You can preach patience and still be ok with the James signing because noone else was going to sign with us and we needed a center. And we knew what role James would play. I personally wanted him to be a shotblocker and intimidator. No need to score too much and we all knew he wasn't a post prescence. Would I pay the MLE for someone to have a game (NOT STATS) similiar to Theo Ratliff...guard the basket be a prescence, and don't mes up the offense.

I agree with you about butler, he's a still a project. hmm I didnt know hunter rejected us but the thing with diop was, isiah seemed to be on the verge of sighning him but then dallas outbidded us, that may not have happened if we still had the MLE to use, but Im not going to complain about diop though thats a case of hindsight being 20/20, I remeber all the threads regarding diop and I think I was one of the poeple who said if cleveland would never play him even though big Z was injured alot last year he must not be worth it. but what about zaza pachulia and chris anderson? they are both guys that I would have gone after before jerome james, did they reject offers from us too?

Pachulia got a boat load from ATL and Anderson resigned with N/O before long.

I liked Diop and Hunter and even Gadz. Anderson was a little too much of a borderline starter. And Pachulia well ATL wanted to make sure it got SOMEONE!

I like sweets, class act, good player, I wish him well...

I forgot all about that yeah me too, I think he'll be a great player in this league it sucks that we had to trade him but I dont object to the eddy curry trade (although for the record I wouldnt have made it) so hopefully sweetney can have a successful career despite the abrupt change.

here's the thing. Was he in your long term plans. Was anyone else bidding for his services. Where was he in his career compared to the rest of your roster. KT was the center for the better part of 4 years. There was a cameo from Deke and Nazr but its been a hole for some time. Stop gap players are fine. You dont give a 5 year deal to a stop gap player. Its the same philosophy that got us saddled with Travis Knight, Shandon Anderson, Eisley and Spoon. Sure they were all traded, but for what? More cap fodder. One mistake just becomes a new one with a different name. JJ just keeps that cycle alive.

I hope he succeeds here and his a weapon for us. Even if he helps us today it still doesnt make it a good signing. Well run franchises work for today and tomorrow.

Bro, there is a HUGE difference between giving a 7 foot center in a league that doesn't have alot of them, and giving a $50 million dollar deal to Shandon Anderson a 6-7 swingman who was pegged totally wrong as a starter quality player, same goes for Eisley. Spoon got the MLE if I remember correctly he just never played well enough to earn it in NY, whereas he did play rather decently in Phill before he got here.

Any sigining in the NBA is a gamble. Some people just don't fit in with the scheme of things. Just look at Earl Watson and Tim Thomas. Does this make the GM an idiot for trying to bring in more talent? I don't think so but i do feel if the Curry trade would have gone down earlier there would be no JJ sightings in NY. Isiah was doing what he thought was the best move for the team and that was getting a beefy center who could clog up the lane. Would I rather see Abdur-Rahim or Earl Watson feeling the spot that JJ holds now? No doubt about it but like Nolad says all the time hindsight is a bitch.
"We need another shot blocker and we need more girth in the middle, once that happens we have a chance to be a pretty decent team" Isiah on draft night

I would've been down with that but once again this falls into the catgory of a player that is not real starter quality material. James was a starter on Seattle. Edwards is nothing right now. Signing players like an Edward, players so far out from left field it would've been better to not sign anyone.

absolutely, but they're stats coming out of last season are comparable..The fact that James was a starter and Zaza was off the bench (I think) may account for the extra couple mil difference coming into the season...just a thought.

One is 22-23 and showed improvement in his game, the other turns 30 and for his career has shown ****.

dude... Zaza is 21 years old. Please dont even go there. Again... is Zaza a long term investment? A player in your future plans? Is he going to get better?

JJ is 30, a 7 year vet. Has issues w/ attitude, work ethic and conditioning. He usually plays about 50 games a year. He's a career 5 points and 4 rebounds or something.

Isiah got hosed by a guy in his walk year. Teams that are rebuilding or who's "best" players are 20-22 dont make 5 year moves for JJ.

Big swing and a miss. Only thing to hope for is that big snacks has some good moments for us.

Zeke is a ****ing jack ass plain and simple for giving james a contract, which he didn't need to do, i am just mad that we didn't get wallace to be our small foward i have always loved him and he is putting in work....

And Sweetney is a fat piece of ****, questioning the Knicks conditioning program, he should have got his over paid, 50 year old body in shape thanks for nothing mike, millions to complain what else is new with this league

I am just saying noone would have predicted Zaza breaking out like he did, IMO. Like I said, If Curry was here already, James wouldn't be here, IMO.

We were relying on James to be our friggin' starting center. Imagine how much of a disaster it would be if we didn't trade for Curry?

AF, I absolutely agree. James has been playing like crap, all I ever expected from him is a lane filling shotblocker and a body to take on other bigs...that's it. He can't even do that.
