one last time so i get this out of my system.

no team wanted eddie curry, not even the bulls. so we offer tham a very nice compensation package of Mike Sweetney--hey Mike Sweetney sure is better than NOTHINg right? I mean literally there were discussion the prior year about Sweetney for Curry. Now --the Bulls want Davuid Lee--that is true--we know that. hes the 30th pick in the draft, an undersized 4. throwing them BOTh Lee and Sweetney for a guuy they wer nOT bringing back and NO other team wanted--why the f do we have an unprotected draft 2 years running? Does anyone realize what type of jeopardy Isiah put us in? Why bid against NO one? what the worst thing that can happen? they waive curry and we sign him next year for the MLE? no one else was antying up.

I mean its OK to lose, its OK to develop, but keep the frikin picks. We have to get better from within and that can happen, but we are still FLAWED terribly. We need to make those ending contracts count and if we have ANy chance to bring back a Ricky Davis, Ill shove David Lee and Jackie Butler on the first plane out--go get me some NBA talent--we got our draft pick in Frye and little nate

Briggs, stop whineing! 69 more games. Curry is hurt, and who cares if its a lotto or not! You got curry! you gonna draft anyone better than curry with the 9th pick?

Its irrelevant man, pay the price and move on.

Sighs... Can you please move on? Its a done deal even if it works out or doesnt! I don't know if we will get out record high enough so that it won't be a lottery pick, many teams coached by Brown have turned their seasons around at the right time, but the truth is it was a good deal. And if you don't believe it was, so what? Its done!

Glad to see while most things in the world are ever-changing that I can log on to ultimate and see that Mr. Briggs is EXACTLY the same.

The flipside to this whole arguement is if Curry was coming out of College this year he would be a senior KILLING guys in college. Where would he go in the draft? Top 3? The Knicks traded Sweets for a top three and a swap down the road.

why do that? when you have free reign to create repetitive whining threads about the same thing over and over again, without getting it locked, why bother looking for old ones, just create another one....

A win and we get the "thank you frye thread"

A loss and we are "gang banged" by the bulls... Go figure..

who cares.
DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.

Feel better now. Who knows how this trade will play out. The draft hasn't even happened yet. Yikes...patience please.

I think the knicks had to make the trade. Month and rose aren't exactly the easiest players to trade. Sweets had to go.

Curry is worth it. If he can continue to improve the kid can be the best st his position in 2 years.

I was just thinking the same thing, but there are 2 arguement here I think. One is the value of Curry and 2 is the deal that got him.
Lets just say Curry was a senior at UConn. Now he missed last year's tourney because of a heart flutter but since has been cleared to play. He's 22. He was a monster last year but didnt enter the draft because of his health, so he comes back for his senior year. So far he's averaging 25/12/4 blocks and shooting 62% from the field. Yea, Rudy Gay, Aldgridge or Morrison are nice but Curry is a 6'11 center with wingspan over 7'6 and a pure post player.
Now is this guy, who is a shoe in for #1 worth Mike Sweetney, an unprotected pick, 2 second rounders and a draft position swap the following year? I would say hands down yes. And I would say almost all would agree. Guys like that come around only every couple of years and your chance of drafting one is even tougher.
On that side: good trade.

Flip side is the stuff Briggs was talking about. Now he's wrong about one thing. The Lakers did offer a package for Curry. I honestly forget the players involved but Kupchick said it was a much better deal than what the Knicks offered. The difference was the Lakers were only offering a 2 year deal w/ a 3rd year option. Something like 2 years $20/mm
Now Curry's agent killed that one because we were willing to offer him 5 years. Could we have done a better job in terms of the draft comp we game them? Probably. Its pretty obvious trades arent Isiah's strong point, as he usually overpays. Overall the deal IS costly and a high risk but its one that makes sense considering our position. The Knicks are in win now mode and needed a presense up front. Thats why they got Larry Brown. Thats why they were willing take the huge risks they did to get Curry.

Fish-you're right about the Lakers as I recall-no one, neither you nor Briggs nor I have any real idea as to the amount and nature of the Lakers offer, or whether any other team had interest or made an offer. How many times have we seen a player, either a free agent or one offered in trade being discussed as going to several places but at the last minute another, previously unmentionned team pop up and win the sweepstakes? Remember Vlad Guerrero(?) where the Angels weren't on anyone's radar until the last minute. I liked Sweetney but he isn't a center but an undersized power forward. Curry would probably No. 1 or 2 if he were coming out of college this year so the question would be what would you pay to move up and grab a No. 1 or 2? I really believe most GM's make the deal.
