I see people say they think we will get under the cap after Marbury's contract or talk about the FAs Isiah might sign when we have cap room. I don't understand it. Any discussion of this team having cap space under this ownership seems irrelevant to me. It's quite obvious that the team has no interest in rebuilding with cap space and the payroll will probably continue to increase by 25% every year.

I'm not even making a judgment about whether it's good, bad, or irrelevant that the team doesn't plan to get under the cap. That can be a different thread. I just don't understand why people are talking like they expect a reversal of direction and the team to suddenly start caring about the cap.

why would anyone want to be under the cap? we can still get FAs in sign&trades. To me, the higher the payroll, the better.

well the reason i talk about it becuase I dont see how this team can get all that much better through sign and trades alone. also I dont see how dolan will be able to pay all this money for much longer. also the knicks can get under the cap in just two seasons pretty easily.

well, they could get under the cap now if they traded everyone for an expiring deal.

why whould isiah do that?

anyway when I said that they could get under the cap "easily" I ment that they could do so without a significant sacrifice in talent.

it's not what some us think, but what i HOPE. and it's not to get UNDER the cap, but to get a group of players with manageable contracts so we're not stuck with old dogs for at least 2 - 3 years.

It is highly unlikely that we will ever get under the cap in the next 5 yrs or so, but it wouldn't be scuh a bad idea to go that direction since we were recently beaten badly by a team that is currently rebuilding and under the cap. Just look at the teams that have won the championships the last few yrs, Pistons, Spurs, and even the LAkers have spent half the Salary the Knicks have they all have Rings to show for it, why can't the Knicks get the message and see the Big Picture. All this talk by LB and IT about having the same goal to WIN, but not be smart about it, and to hear this crap about it takes time, that is such BS, from guys who are doing nothing but collecting HUGE paychecks while blowing smoke up everyone's collectives asses and laughing all the way to the bank.
