I think both would be alright coming off the bench because they're both big, but James is more of the shot-blocking, rebounding type that we need. He's strictly a size player and could start or at least play 20-25 minutes a game. He's a pure center and in the east he could take up a lot more space. Hopefully he is our guy because that would improve our team a lot. Thoughts?

Yeah, I agree with you. Hopefully Layden will make signing James his top priority. When can free agents begin to sign contracts? Is it the 16th of July?

Yeah it's the 16th. I think Layden also really needs to go for Keon Clark with him being the only free agent center that could start on our team without us needing a sign-and-trade to get him. Olowankandi is another, but we would need to make a big deal in order to get him. James seems like the best center we could get and have a legit chance at him. Clark maybe, but i just don't see us being able to sign him with all the competition. I hope i'm wrong.

Forget about Doleac. He`s not the kind of guy the Knicks are in need of. He`s got center size but not center skillz. He`s got a nice touch but what the Knicks need the most from a big guy is rebounding (OFFENSIVE rebounding!!) and a good low post defense. I`m not talking about shot blocking. That`s just for the show. It`s nice to block a shot but is more important to prevent that a player takes a shot at all!

I agree, i'm not crazy about Doleac, however if we can't get another center, it's not that bad to go to Doleac as a last resort. He is a big body and can see minutes off the bench. Clark, Kandi, and James have to be the first options though.
Will they offer the full midlevel exception to Jerome James or would 3 million suffice?
If 3 million would be enough there would be 1.7-9 (depends on whether the midlevel will be 4.7 or 4.9, have read both but none are sure untill the 17th) left to give to Jarron Collins for instance.

I think we should offer the mid-level exception to Keon Clark and hope he signs with us. I'm not high on Jerome James, but I guess he would do for a season if we can't get Keon. I don't think we have any shot at getting Olowokandi.
We suck.

we should first try to key-on clark.
then james should get offerred $2.5 mil and doleac $2 mil per season for 3 seasons a piece, splitting the mid-level exception like ho grant and ewing did last summer.

Jerome James would benefit the knicks for size purposes and clogging the middle. As for Doleac, he's not great but should help as well especially if the knicks learn to pick and roll. Doleac is a lethal 15 foot shooter who can draw shaq to come outside or any other player that sticks in the paint. HEy i rather have JAMES/Doleac=7'1 and 6'11 come of the bench then Weatherspoon/Harrington=6'7 and 6'9
