Last years team was bad.

We played no defense.
We had 2 scoring options (Steph & Craw) with KT as our 3rd (if KT is your 3rd scoring option you suck.)
If TT played decently (15ppg) we would have been a pretty good team, KT woulda been our 4th option.
We played a guard oriented offense, with some plays for KT and TT, and Nazr got his in the flow of the game.

If we play now, the exact same way as last year with a guard oriented offense, but:
Played tough defense like we do now.
Use Frye in the pick and roll and post.
Dump it down to Curry.
Run some plays for q, (in the post or spot up)
We would be a very difficult team to beat.

If we just combine the best of both worlds, from what Larry is bringing now, and utilize the offensive firepower we have, we would be really really good.

I'm just saying, why not mix the best of both worlds, and have strethches during the game where we play offense like this?

Along with of course switiching Craw and Steph at different times too. Maybe this is the plan and it is taking some time to workout.

It makes sense to me when you look at how many close games where lost last year and we weren't even d'ing up and didn't have the talent or depth that we have now, especially at the PF and C position.

dude...our defense isn't THAT good.

and you want us to go back to the way our offense was last year? where marbury dominated the ball...

ughh....

this is a post from a knicks fan on another board:

What I saw from my favorite Knick...crushed me! I saw Marbury trying to make a point rather than win a game by being the Point. In the first half he showed what an aggressive, inspired Marbury can do when he's doing things his way. In the second half we saw the protest of a little kid, holding his breath until he gets what he wants. We saw a career loser try to make a point to a Hall Of Fame, championship winning coach. My opinion of my favorite Knick was truly impaired last night, I feel like the young boy that was just told Santa isn't real! I'm not completely done with Marbury, I still hold onto the naive part of being a fan, I still believe he can make it happen, but it's become obvious to me, for the first time (as sad as that is) that Marbury can't and won't ever be a floor leader...NEVER! That leads me to wonder why the Knicks need him then, he can't fulfill the one role we truly need filled, I don't see anyone on this team that can step up into that role, but it surely won't be Marbury. Hopeless in Orlando...

we SHOULD NOT be guard oriented. that's something to help us NOW but we should be going inside/out to build for the future.

ya i read that post on K4L.

and ya, being guard-oriented is usually bad in the long run. most championship teams not named the bulls won b/c of their frontcourt.

we need to establish curry 1 of these days as our #1 option, and surround him with defense...

either that...or bring in a "kobe"

That's it. We need to run some plays for Q. Why didn't Larry Brown think of that? He has been invisible and should be parked on the bench until further notice. If minutes are distributed around here by performance, Q will be getting a lot of DNP coach's decisions.
We could be the Dallas Mavs of the East.

One thing I think people need to bare in mind is that Larry put us on a reduced playbook because our key guys couldn't keep all the plays in their heads. So they were freelancing, finding themselves in wrong positions, poor in transition defense, and then blowing their defensive rotations.

So Larry chose to concentrate on defense first with a dumbed down offensive playbook until the guys could do it right within a few limited sets; then build the book back up.

The problem is the guys are still struggling to execute the Larry Brown "Offense For Dummies" book, and who knows when they'll be able to absorb an expanded variety of plays.

really puts it in perspective, this team being so young and all.

if larry expectations for this team is killa defense the offense will suffer and it shows:

last year starbury's numbers through 9 games = 20/9
this year brown's offense playbook through 9 games has star playing career low 15/6

last year crawford's point production average with star for 9 games = 18
crawford declining point production this year of 13 ppg may be the result lb's playbook

last year by 10 games knicks were balling .500
by 10 games this year knicks will be lucky to ball .428

who cares about lb's playbook when the result is information overload....try k.i.s.s

after 8 games you can't just drop your play and start throwing plays for guys. LB NEEDS to establish Curry early. And after missing most of training camp it will take a whie. Look for Q to post after Xmas.

Yeah, I agree and thats kind of my point. But we cannot really on our frontcourt to do the bulk of the scoring each night. Curry can't carry the bulk of the offensive load. Steph can. Crawford can help. Frye is becoming a more reliable offensive option too. But Steph has got to be able to attack and be aggressive and not just run a set play each and every time down.

When it boils down to it, do we want Davis, Lee, Rose, Ariza, or Robinson taking the shot because we have to move the ball around and they're open? They're open for a reason. I'd rather have my teams best scorers carryig the load. Thats 4 players first Steph & Craw, and then Frye and Curry.

As the season progresses and our bigs develop we can be more of an inside outside offense. This is exactly what happened against portland today, and it is exactly why we won. We did not rely on Malik Rose's 18 footers and I am happy about that.

No one ever gives me my props when I call it like it is. Thats Okay. I'll cherish the Portland W more because it came just as I said it should have.
