ESPN - Former NBA player Johnny Newman was sentenced to 60 days in jail and fined $500 for assaulting his wife.

The 41-year-old Newman was convicted Monday of domestic assault and battery, and the jail term was suspended. An appeal is scheduled Jan. 11 in Henrico County Circuit Court.

Dawnn Lewis Newman, 45, an actress who has appeared in the TV show "Hangin' with Mr. Cooper," said in an emergency-protection order that Newman attacked her Sept. 3 in his suburban Richmond home.

She said Newman grabbed her by the throat, threatened to kill her and dragged her down a set of stairs by her legs.

Damn Newman...... with the Knicks you was the man Newman.

Johnny Newman was just on NYKWAY looking so cool and calm while discussing what it was like to be a knick in the late 80's. I mean he was sounding smooth as hell and really laid back.

Funny thing is, thats what people are gonna say about me if I ever have to **** somebody up.

"I mean, Killa was such a cool dude. Who would think he would just beat that guy to death for saying that the knicks aren't gonna make the playoffs?"

If he dragged her down some stairs, I guess she was trying to leave. I never knew that Dawnn Lewis married Newman, let alone dated him.

Sounds like the typical, everyday marriage.
When you're single, all you have to do is replace her before the drama even gets that bad. Ahh, the freedom!

Women have you like that. Sometimes they won't stop complaining even if you are telling them to leave you alone. They keep on. They they call the cops when you dragging them down the stairs, lol.

We joke but we don't really know what went down but chances are she was like:
