To start off, I'm mostly impressed with Q and his defense overall. I didn't think he had it in him before the season started, but the guy is playing tough.

As for the dunks, Bip, you know as well as anyone that I think dunking can be a misleading thing in the NBA (In terms of if someone doesn't dunk a lot, a lot of people assume they aren't good or athletic or aggresive). However, I remember 3 years ago we were saying how the best dunk of the season was the Shanderson dunk over Gerald Wallace. That dunk was mad cool, don't get me wrong, but now all of our guys ARE dunking like that a lot more consistently. Our games are so much more entertaining now.

They showed the game of Allan Houston scoring 53 points last week, and as awesome as that performance was, that Knick team was so freaking unwatchable. Last year was kinda bad too, but at least we had something to look foward to. But now it's just a breath of fresh air for once.

I agree. Dunking has nothing to do with winning but it has a lot to do with whether fans want to watch or not. Just think a couple years ago CSpoon was probably our most consistant dunker. Uggggggg

Q is starting to remind me of a yonger, taller Charlie Ward. Sit on the outside shoot threes and draw charges. I like his D but his offense is bothering me.

The Marbury one that you put in bold doesn't surprise me at all. The Q and Mo T #s are very pleasant surprises.

But don't you miss the times guys like Marcus Camby would block his shot 12 times a game, and all the hot dog rolls on the back of his neck? Well, we still have Malik and Jerome for that stuff so I guess it should be *kinda* hard to miss him.

his handle reminds me of howard eisley...dribble dribble dribble dribble dribble

uh, and he has no post game. he's really our BAIL OUT option on offense. if nothing is working, kick it out to him and hope he hits a 3. but i am impressed with his transition defense stealing passes and picking up charges.

I miss how the basketball would get lost in his hot dog rolls after it got blocked.

I also miss how fans would argue the merits of our coach when our roster consisted of 8 or 9 guys that can't even make rotations nowadays

Q and Mo Ts are very pleasant surprises. Last year, I don't know, but I have a feeling Marbury had CLOSE to 5 charges ALL YEAR and no more than 5. He's a different player this year. It's nice. Same for Crawford.

Yeah I agree with all you guys. Everytime I see someone draw a charge I'm prety sure it's going to be Q or Antonio(Mo T if he's playing). As for the Marbury numbers to me it just shows a committment. I'm surprised Nate doesn't have any. I predicted he would lead the team.

Over Under on when Jamal draws his first charge(game 20)

November 26th against the 76ers is when Jamal will draw his first charge, b/c that will be the Knicks season opener. Meaning, that's when Allanfan20 makes his first appearance of the season. Guarantee the Knicks will have at least 9 wins when the season ends. Muahahahaha

I think dunking is very important to basketball. It gets the fans into it, it can take the other fans out of it, and it really can excite a team or take a team out of it. Like when Trevor got that rebound and than dunked it in. How often do teams call a time out after a spectacular dunk?

And this team was horrid when it came to athletes a few years ago. Just horrible. Not exciting at all. Not worth watching. Just boring as hell. Man I hate Scott Layden.

But DUNKING ALONE barely impacts the game. It's simply fun to watch, and occasionally shows how aggresive a player is. It barely shows if a player is good though, b/c almost everyone in the league can dunk.

I agree that dunks are great to get the fans in the game and can really get a team up. But their importance is less than that of a dagger three. And coach's normally call a timeout to get rest for players or because the team is playing bad, not because of a dunk.

Bippity, good post on these rarely kept stats. I believe that we'll see a definite surge in charges taken as the players learn better spacing inside on D. I like what I have been seeing in that department, from Mo T and Q in particular.

Curry will also get more dunks, once he's comfortable avoiding those offensive fouls. He threw up too many hook shots last night IMO.
Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

For whatever reason the dunk is an exclamation point. And usually occurs during a fast break lapse in defense, or a general lapse in defense. I think its a very powerful psychological weapon, and I think creates alot more stimuli than a 3. Sure coaches call timeouts for many reasons, but I just remember many times a timeout is called after the opposing team broke down their defense and dunked.

By itself its not great, but its good to have players who can. Im sure everyone can dunk in the league, but there would be 10-12 games in the Layden era where I wouldnt see one Knick dunk. Booorrrinnnngg.

Harcore: I agree. Even watching in passing you can see some subtle changes. The offensive movement is obvious but the defense is just as obvious. Even when guys are getting past our guards they have to contend with someone else on the inside. Someone is stepping up to draw a charge, block the shot or hammer someone. Also our guards are not pouting after they get beat. They are recovering and are rotating hard to the open guy after there is a penetration and kick. The last two games Crawford and Ariza blocked shots this way and Marbury has caused at least 1 and possibly 2(can't remember if it was him or Craw) airballs after rotating once they got beat off the dribble. That is huge.

Interesting stats...did you keep track of them yourself or is there somewhere online where I can get them?

I've actually been impressed with Mo T this year. He is buying in. I'm glad that Q is taking charges and trying on D...otherwise having a guy who solely takes 3's would be pretty annoying. He's gotta vary that game...we know he has the ability.
