"Penny Hardaway is suffering from acute tendinitis in his right knee and was placed on the inactive list before the game. Hardaway said the pain, which is not in his surgically repaired left knee, is so intense at times that it feels like a knife ripping into his flesh.

Hardaway, 34, said he has been playing through the pain since training camp. He is likely to be out for a while, and if the pain persists, it could spell the end for Hardaway, who is in the final year of his contract."

Great, he's untradeable!

He may be untradeable, but thankfully his contract isn't

he's still an expiring deal, that is always tradeable.

So, that JJ and Penny on the bench for awhile...with barnes not playing well in his starting debut, and Rose clearly being outplayed by the kids, it's gonna be between those two IMHO.
all kool aid all the time.

penny's sole value is an expiring deal.
his value did not go down in the slightest bit.

but this is good b/c that means nate gets some minutes...which he needs.

now hopefully the next headline reads "malik rose is on the inactive list due to left brain malfunction"

Untradeable? Why? NOBODY trading for Penny wants him for what he can or can't do on the court.

the plan should be NOT to trade him barring firesale.
and then waive him after the deadline to clear up a roster spot.

When was the last time there was a trade for an injured player like this? Even given the contract.

agreed. we complain about him taking minutes away from nate at the point and ariza on the wings, replacing him would only worsen the crunch. and some cap savings would give the media one less thing to b*tch about.

Wasn't Jamal mashburn traded while injured last year (or maybe the year before?) It was to match salary in a larger deal. Point is, injured guys can get traded, especially fro cap relief. Hell, remeber the Spree-KVH trade, Terell Brandon got traded in that, specifically because his contract was set to expire, even though it was widely known he was never gonna play again

These trades happen all the time. He's the big money expiring with the young guys that makes the deal for the star. And we have alot of kids who can fetch something, but no draft picks. Hard to pry KG away from Minnesota without any picks.

Still I would be just as happy letting his deal expire. But its not my money so who cares.

If the season continues the way it does, would it be sensible on either side to do a:

Kevin Garnett, Wally Z for Penny, Jamal Crawford, Nate Robinson, Channing Frye? Prob not but maybe.

big expiring deals yield you unwanted players with baggage.

sheed - unwanted in portland, with baggage
steph - unwanted in pheonix, with baggage
toine - unwanted in atlanta, with baggage
webber - unwanted in sacratomato, with baggage (although it wasn't expiring deals)
vince - unwanted in toronot, with baggage

you see, it's not like you're getting a top 5 player and really, the only team that truly took the next step was detroit as it already had 4 cogs in place and needed one more piece. you can make a case of nj but they're still unbalanced and need to make another move. so moving penny now may return us a quality player BUT we'd still be either years or some more moves away.

Mashburn?

SIXERS GET: Rodney Rogers, Jamal Mashburn
HORNETS GET: Glenn Robinson

FOR SIXERS: Getting Rodney Rogers is decent. They really just wanted to trade Glenn Robinson away. Jamal Mashburn isn't expected to ever play again. Though, anything is possible.

FOR HORNETS: Not too much going for New Orleans. The Hornets just want to dump salary at this point.

The wolves traded guard Terrell Brandon to Atlanta and forward Marc Jackson to Philadelphia in a four-team deal; acquired guard/forward Latrell Sprewell from New York

in all honesty, i wouldn't trade channing for kg straight up right now. it sounds nuts, but i wouldn't do it.

Penny will be working the bench in a suit! YES!

Even if we don't trade him, his $$ comes off at the end of the year- win/win!
Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

amen. KG has seen his best days already. Channing has his best days spaced out over the next ten years. The thought of what Channing and Eddy can be makes me giddy.

also, there won't be any problem trading Penny's contract. Though what will come back for him scares me.
