Rip is a good player but like Bonn said he's also playing with a bunch of other really good players. This stuff about him winning in college with no one else on the team is overated. Why? Well lets take a look at some of the records his teams have had before Detroit got Rasheed and won.
2000-01 Wizards - 29-53
2001-02 Wizards - 19-63
2002-03 Wizards - 37-45 (bare in mind Michael Jordan was on the team

Obviously from there he went onto the Pistons and a perenial 50Win team but to say that he's the reason teams win is ridiculous becuase just look at the Wizards.

who was the best player on that ct team--rip--only other nba player was jake voshkul--a marginal talent--they went 34-2 and the two games they lost was when rip was injured. they beat a duke team in the final that had 5 first round picks and a number 1 pick overall elton brand correy maggette shane battier, trajan langdon, will avery

you're right a different type of player, but rip is a particular piece that is hard to come by--thats why he won everywhere he went.

Well, clearly Langdon and Avery were vastly overrated, as well as Battier. As for the Huskies, I believe Jake Voskhul was a no. 1 pick or early no.2, whatever the case he lasted longer in the league than Avery or Langdon did. And Khalid El Amin would have been a higher pick if it wasn't for his off the court probs. That guy was a great college PG.

I'm not saying Rip isn't an excellent player, I'd take him for this team in a second. What he does well is probably harder to find than what Marbury does well. I just don't think it's fair to label Rip as a "winner" given that he's been in some great situations.

Yeah, and they wouldn't have won it w/o Rip either and his clutch shooting BTW
No argument from me on that point.
This isn't a Marbury knock, but Marbury has never carried a team like that during crucial moments.
I don't know how to interpret that statement; Marbury's never even had a team of skilled veterans like that.

Rip...

Are there rumors of this happening or is this just speculation?

I like Steph, but I think we could do better.

No, just throwing it out there. I just wanted to see the sentiment placed on a winner vs a stat player.

It's funny what the last two years were for RIP. Ask MJ and the Wizards about RIP being a winner a couple of years ago. Same about Rasheed. I guess he is now a winner too, the people in Portland were wrong about him too. Horace Grant has about 4 rings and MJ and others don't think he ever lived up to ability. Ewing has a ring or medal for every level of basketball but NBA championship, is he a stat or a winner? Is Mark Madsen a bigger winner than Ewing.

BTW, wasn't it Billups and Ben Wallace who had the monster playoff games. Billups is Finals MVP, and was on his way to another last season. I think your question Briggs should be would you rather have the Pistons roster vs. the Knicks' roster? I'll take the Pistons roster.

so many people have rebutted this "Rip was a winner, Marbury is a loser" nonsense, that I am greatful I didn't have to waste the time doing the reasearch.

Rip on this team is not really what we need. Rip is a cog in the machine known as the Detroit Pistons. I don't think you can remove any of their starting five and say they win.

Rip is really good, and a rarer talent, but in the category of leading teams to wins, with his skill set, I can't see it, and he has NEVER done it. He can get you over the hump, which is basically what he does in Detroit, but CARRY a team, No way.

Rip no question about it. I'll take a 6-5 SG who can shoot lights out and play great defense anyday over a 6-2 SG who plays very little defense and doesn't make the right passes or push the ball

In the game against GS Steph did not have an assist in the last 33 minutes of the game. This is our great player? Horrible.

I'd rather wait and see what Larry can do for Steph's game before we make any decisions like that. It's alright of some of you don't think Marbury will be willing to make adjustments to his game, I just happen to disagree and think the least we could do is be a little patient.

Rip, and I didn't think twice. Winner, unselfish, better defense, coachable, great condition and won't be outhustled.
We could be the Dallas Mavs of the East.

Rip- for a lot of reasons stated.

And for anyone worried about pg?

With Rip, I think we could get by with tracking down frank williams- or for that matter, we could have fishmike, bonn or briggs man the position.

I think our biggest problem is perimeter shooting- add someone like rip and that is going to help curry & frye

Rip.

He doesn't need the ball in his hands to be effective.
