Clubs Wait For KG To Become Available
6th November, 2005 - 8:38 pm
LA Times - Teams around the league are already eyeing Kevin Garnett, a solid citizen but one whose time in Minnesota may be passing, if it hasn't already passed.

The Timberwolves are on a downswing and Garnett wore down trying to carry them last season. He didn't like losing Sam Cassell, Latrell Sprewell and Coach Flip Saunders and, coincidentally or not, was a no-show at a team luncheon for local civic leaders.

"Kevin knew he was supposed to be there yesterday," Coach Dwane Casey told the local media. "It was not a big issue. For me it's a dead subject…. It wasn't a thing out of defiance. It wasn't a thing out of, 'Oh, I'm going to show them this.' It was a thing he didn't make it to. No big deal."

Garnett, in less of a hurry to explain it away, wouldn't say what it was. A year ago, Cassell and Sprewell skipped the same function, although Casey noted, "You had two guys negotiating contracts. Kevin, last time I checked, is signed." [READ]

What are you guys ready to give up for KG?
I'm thinking both expirings and several youngsters for KG, Wally and Troy Hudson.

Successful Scenario
Due to New York and Minnesota being over the cap, the 25% trade rule is invoked. New York and Minnesota had to be no more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Lee and Channing are our best forwards right now.....hands down. I want to try and dangle the expiring deals for KG but I don't know what the T-Wolves are thinking. Mchale is a retard.

The T-Wolves need the money and they just need to continue to build with youth. They need to just tank now and stop playing around. Why are they holding on to KG?

Let KG go man.....He'd look great in Orange and Blue but long as Boston or some crazy team like that don't get him I cool. Danny Ainge has the chips by the way and that scares me. He could send a packedge of LaFrentz with guys like Dickau and and Al Jefferson and future picks without a second thought. It's not that easy for the Knicks.

I think to get KG you would have to include either Frye or Curry-

I think I'd rather see Curry traded, but its early in the season.

KG & Wally for Curry, AD or Penny & Q? Probably one more piece needs to go in (Ariza, Nate or Lee).

You guys do realize that this is KG. Any package less than Marbury and Curry for KG would be laughed at. It probably would be more like Marbury, Curry, two picks (or youngsters, e.g.: Lee, Nate) + expiring for KG and bad Wolves contracts.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

they should be happy to take penny, rose and ad...and we'll toss in barnes.

Otherwise, what's the point?

we're building for the future, and yesterday's game was the best example...a coworker that doesn't follow the off season moves and has no idea who we drafted came in and her first comment was:

"I told you we suck, 0 - 3"

and I was like

"yeah, I know"

and then she said..

"but those 3 rookies were awesome...we finally have a future, we may actually win a championship in my lifetime, though it may not be for 5 years"

I just sat back and smiled.

If KG wants to come here, demand a trade like TMac and FORCE them to send you to New York.

Give them Barnes, Rose, AD and Penny and if they want somebody young, they can have jackie butler as well.

But everybody else I think stays put.

come on guys, zeke and LB are revolutionizing rebuilding in the big city. with a upper mantle of over paid vets and a core of young kids.

It's wonderful.

Trade everyone over 25 with the exception of marbury.
all kool aid all the time.

KG is an exceptional player, no doubt. But if he does get traded, its not going to be for all that.

What did Shaq get traded for? Before that, you'd have said something similar about trading for Shaq.

If KG either forces a trade, or McHale & Co decide its time to move a different direction, I think they'd be happy with cap relief (read, take wally, Kandi?) and some young players (Ariza & Frye?, perhaps Curry & Lee & Q?) and for once, we do have the parts.

However, I agree with rvhoss's sentiment that we finally have a young nucleaus and now is not the time to spend that on KG who is going to be on the wrong side of his career soon, at least age wise.

Um Shaq got traded for Lamar Odom, Caron Butler and Brian Grant. Odom has more value than either Curry (thanks to the heart condition) or Marbury. Furthermore, KG is younger than Shaq was when traded, more athletic, etc... Shaq only went even that "cheap" because of his age and condition. If KG forces a trade, it's Marbury and Curry. People don't give away stars for peanuts.

I wouldn't trade Marbury and Curry for Odom, Butler and Grant. Grant got bought out.

I'd think I might happily trade Marb and Curry for KG- might fit better with Brown's notion of a point guard.

However, its a matter of leverage and if KG tells mchale to trade him, he can either find the best deal or have an unhappy superstar tanking it ala vince carter.

And what about Vince? he got traded for what? garbage.

I just think if KG gets traded, it won't be for as much as one would think.

Marbury and Curry both make way too much long term for a trade to be worthwhile to Minnesota. I doubt they'd even want Crawford or Q.

A trade package built around Frye, Ariza, and Nate, along with both expiring contracts, and any picks we can cobble together for KG, Wally, and Hudson/Hassell (all long term $$) is the only deal I would do if I was the Twolves. Why would they want Marbury, unless they were keeping KG around? It dosen't give them any cap relief and leaves them farther away from contention.

Cap relief by taking on their bad contracts is the only thing we can give them to make a deal worthwhile. If they're trading for anywhere near equal money, they can get MUCH better talent elsewhere.

Well then you guys may have verywell stated why we're not good trade partners with Minny. We can't offer them fair value without giving up Marbury, as far as I can see.

If curry can put a good run together, I could see mchale trading for him- the heart issue would be the sticking point.

I doubt they get a better young/talent offer than a Curry/Lee or Frye/Lee & cap relief. now- that might be paying too much.

And vice versa. It kind of defeats the purpose to get KG and not have Steph either way. If the point is to get him here and make a run for a championship, you do that with him and Steph. not with him and no other major scorers to speak of.

Frye obviously would have to go in a trade for KG, but it would kill me inside.

NJ could offer RJ OR Vince + Kristic + a 1st rd pick. A lineup with Kidd, KG and either RJ or Vince would make them contenders
