14 feet and 600lbs between them, at a cost of $90MM and we still don't have an inside presence on defense. The Wiz guards came into the paint with complete impunity. I know the Big Stiff is useless but it was alarming that Curry was a total non factor. I understand that he has a decent offensive game but like a lot of his teammates he's one dimensional and even those offensive skills are very raw and underdeveloped.

I'm not suggesting that people should hit the panic button but it's a little sad that it took only 2 games to show how flawed this team is and how far away we really are from just being competitive much less a contender.
If it didn’t work in Phoenix with Nash and Stoutamire... it’s just not a winning formula. It’s an entertaining formula, but not a winning one. - Derek Harper talking about D'Antoni's System

This is the panic button. Once Frye starts, he'll balance out our frontcourt.

His rebounding, and shot blocking/altering will change the lane for us.

I'm scared to have EC play the lane too tough because he gets in foul trouble and we have no other low post scorer.

If Frye gets in foul trouble, we got AD and Mo t who both can play valuable roles in different areas.

many knick fans will take notice to curry's lackadaisical play which i feel may be extending from his chicago playing days. curry playing with a little more consistency under the larry brown regime is the expectation for curry to be all that he can be. so maybe we should twiddle our thumbs and look at starbury (sarcasm)

more of a interesting observation than *panic button because curry should make games like this count. he should've defended the garden floor a little better......this is suppose to be ec not kb.

note: *panic button, see dj's comments on starbury

A little early to panic. Right now the first two games are alarming. We're not getting it done defensively. But, this is a young team and many of the guys have not played together before. Everyone has said that it will take at least 1/2 year to mesh. Let's give it that much. I think at least 50% of the board figures we will be a below .500 team (or no better than .500) for the first half of the season, even with a fairly easy early schedule.

I say, give it a little time and see if it meshes. If we have an awful season, we still have no inside presence, the picks turn out to be busts, etc... then it'll certainly be time to panic. It's a little early, after game 2, though.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

That's my reaction. The first two games are alarming but the team is so young, hasn't played together, and has a new coach. Didn't the baby Bulls start something like 0-9 last year?

We still need shotblocking. Boy, there's this guy named Marcus Camby in the city of Denver that sure would look good right about now.

Michael Ruffin? I dont remeber him being that good of a center... anyway islesfan does have a point about our center situation being defensively insufficient, but im not too worried about that right now becuase its more due to the fact that Larry keeps playing James more than it is anything else, Im sure once he starts playing frye, or even butler for that matter, things will improve. its true that eddy curry has never been much of a defender and that he didnt have a single block last night but he did have two blocks the game before so its possible that he will improve defensively under brown as the season goes on, also frye had 1 block in only 18 minutes. I'm confident that once LB realizes(if he hasnt already) not to play james, the defensive situation will improve soon enough. Also I think islesfan's statement that the wiz guards penatrated with "complete" impunity is is a bit of an exaggeration, we drew quite a number of charging fouls against them, I can already notice a differnce in defense between this year and last year, and we will only get better with time.

I'm not at all surprised by how the Knicks have played. I've never believed that you could just throw a random group of players together and get a good team. The need to go through the wars together and learn to trust one another, learn each others strengths and weaknesses. They have to buy into and play within the coach's system. All that takes time.

Last time I checked there wasn't a surplus of great centers available to the Knicks. Whatever his flaws, we're lucky to have Curry as he at least has some promise.
