If Big Snacks doesn't pick it up soon I have a feeling he's going to be on a Milk Carton in the NY area and sooner rather then later. Just a hunch

I have two words to say: "Inactive List"

BTW, is there no clause in contract about somebody being in game shape?

Maybe we can get Matt to do a countdown till the end of James contract and that would make things go by faster.

LOL! Let's not burden Matt with too much. He's already done quite a good job with the Bush countdown. LOL.

I said it during the signing that this would be the worst move ever... and all you guys were yelling at me about potential, and he was BIG GAME JAMES, and stuff like that. God... this place has no clue sometimes. (This... and all the Marbury hating)

Wow, what a shocker. Big Stiff is playing like he has his entire career and not that anomaly that were those 10 playoff games. Is anybody really surprised?

I was never excited about the James' signing and have no idea why you mentioned my name. I'll give my 2 cents on the signing, though. I thought it was an okay (but not good) gamble for a small contract ($5 mil per with a Shandon buyout after 2 years if it doesn't work out). I was at first more interested in Steven Hunter than James but Briggs convinced me with unusually good reasoning that James has a much better, stronger basketball body. What star did you want with the MLE?

I tried to find Briggs' threads. I couldn't find the thread where he comapred James and Hunter but did find this one. Go figure that I pay the price the one and only time I listen to Briggs! (I listened because I assumed he had watched a lot more of JJ than I had.)

17 points 15 reb 5 blocks
he kind of fills the same role that Deke filled for us and now fills for Houston. A guy that can play 16-18 minutes--maybe more, help control the paint score, rebound and block shots and score @ 50%

At 7-1 275, Id sure rather have him then guys like malik jyd etc...

You keep using words like "small" and "low" to describe Big Stiff's salary but he's being paid over the league average of $5MM. That's neither small nor low. Do you even understand the difference between these terms?

"A Shandon buyout"? What does that mean exactly? The money is still on the cap, isn't it? You act like it's just an accounting measure that doesn't affect us in any other way. I guess your point is that you can pay him off and get a roster spot but guess what, he's taking up a roster spot right now and the MLE that could have been used on somebody who could actually help us. That's a great way to run a franchise.

You're simply wrong. The MLE *is* the league average. It's determined each year as the calculation of the average of all players with guaranteed contracts.
The money is still on the cap, isn't it?
That's a huge problem if you believe the only way to build a championship team is to get lots of cap space. It's not a problem at all if you believe a championship team can be built without getting under the cap. No point in debating the two sides. We've heard the arguments countless times.

Point is, Bonn is right that the MLE is average. However, Jeromes James isn't playing average, nor was he ever. He is NOT a good basketball player and he is making Tim Thomas look like a superstar right about now. He was always a way below average player who is worth maybe 1 mm in NBA standards. Not 5. It was a bad signing, that if anything, hinders the development of our youth.

Depends on what average you're talking about. The MLE is actually the mean (all salaries summed up divided by number of players). Thus, when a guy is making $20 MM, he counts as much as four players would. The league mean may be the MLE, but the median sure isn't. The median is significantly lower. So, I don't think Isles is incorrect. On the same token, since the word average can have three meanings (mean, mode, median) I don't think Bonn is wrong either, as far as terminology.

I agree with AF20, though. James is not even average, yet (in some senses) he's getting an average salary. Therefore, he's overpaid.
