They should be interested in some cap relief and some talented yougnsters right?
Here it is:

Antonio Davis
Matt Barnes
Trevor Ariza

for

D. Miles
Ruben Patterson

Maybe a pick if they force it. They get cap relief, and 2 promising young players.

We get D. Miles and the "Kobe-Stopper" and LB turns Darius into a slim Ron Artest, with a way deadlier offensive game and handles.

Steph/Nate
Q/Craw
D. Miles/Rueben Patterson
Frye/Mo T./Lee
Curry/JJ/Jackie Butler

Still deep, still a big team and that starting lineup looks like it could go deep into the playoffs this year and in a year or 2 challenge for a title!!!

miles is untouchable now...
DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.

If they trade him its gotta be that trade though. thats the only thing that makes sense. Unless its Lee in place of Barnes which I could live with. I don't think one big game makes him untouchable, but it certainly makes it harder. According to reports, they are discussing this trade, or were prior to the other nights game.

Ariza is the only guy that leaves us that really matters, and Miles is severeal echelons above him. This isn't a panic move, this is a smart move regardless. A panic move would be trading crawford because his first game sucked. This is a move to get us some perimeter defense, and scoring from the 3 spot.

Well....they're NOT trading him now.

And if they did hypothetically, that WOULDN'T be the trade b/c they still wouldn't have enough $$$ to sign Joel.

How much freaking money do you think he's getting? And who can offer more cap space than us?

Maybe we give them Jackie Butler instead of Ariza or Barnes then.

They need between 15 and 20 Mill.

They're already 5+ Mill over the cap.

Pryz will command somewhere around 9-10 Mill.

Plus account for lottery pick ~ 3 Mill.

They need more cap space than we can realistically offer.

And there's no difference in salary b/w Ariza, Barnes, and Butler.

SHUT DOWN.

With D. Miles in NY via this trade, a smaller trade can get them the few million left in space they need.

You really haven't shut down anything, I think D. Miles is gonna be on our team before the year is out.

people talked about ariza like he was untouchable before. he's all potential, but he has the tools to be real good. we go through one game, where our current young SFs get torched by pierce, a guy who is consistently near the top in the league in FT attempts, and we start seeing trade proposals that throw in those guys. that's partly the reason NY can't rebuild. we see one game, and don't like something, so the solution is to get rid of our pipeline of youth for an established player. killa i'm not accusing you of this, but trade proposals like this show how little patience some fans have with youth. one disappointing game, and we need to get that vet and will give up some really promising players for him. no willingness to go through growing pains.

do we NEED a better small forward NOW? we're not winning the champies this year folks. i'm willing to wait and see if guys we have our our studs of the future at the SF, not trade for a hyped up guy, two head cases.

And you're basing this on........what exactly?

Miles is their go-to-guy right now. He's their friggin captain.

Do you understand the words that are comin outta my mouth?

The only thing stopping Miles from staying in Portland is 17-20 Mill in straight up cap space.

Are you suggesting we trade Penny AND AD?

Or are you suggesting John Nash go out of his way just to accomodate Isiah? What "smaller" trade...?

All their players beside Patterson, Miles, Ratliff, and Randolph are underpaid youngsters. Why the ferg would they "clear cap space" by trading 1 of them?

Again...

SHUT DOWN

They might not be planning to win this year but they do want to win eventually! They're not gonna give up Miles right now when he's been improving so much (counting the 2nd half of last year) unless they get something outstanding in return. Like all other teams, we had our chance to get Miles when his value was low.

plus- portland is like us in that they could be $400m over the cap and it wouldn't matter- just a short time ago, they were with us in cap number- they've traded some vets & let others simply walk to reduce their cap number- I don't think they feel the need to trade perhaps their best player to get cap relief.
