Larry has been a head coach for for 33 years! Not many can say that. In the modern era, coaches don't last long for many reasons. This guy moves around because he is wanted and knowns when to leave.
Carolina Cougars 2 years (franchise folded) Denver Rockets-Nuggets 5 years, trip to the finals! Kansas University 2 (won championship!) Nets 2 years (wanted to be in NY, left for a great job) UCLA 5 years (regrets leaving, said it was his only career mistake) Spurs 4 years (underperoformed) Clips 2 years (good money and wanted back in LA!) Pacers 4 years (good long run!) Philly 6 years (good money, good run, stayed too long, mutually agreement) Detrot 2 years (2 trips to finals, clash with owner, health, very unusual conditions) Knicks (11 million good reasons and back home!)
This guy does a great job! Can't say he has been with fault with some departures, but not many coaches can last this long, and still not be considered a retread!
Take out the nets and clips as his real two flake outs. Leaving Detroit was just weird. Can't remember a guy going to the finals twice and getting the boot over issues that occured.
MOst coaches don't last 4 years. The players start to tune them out. Larry knows this and knows sometimes its just time!
