Practically all I've read since Draft Day is how Scott Layden is the worst GM. Hell, I was at MSG's Theatre and people were chanting "Fire Layden" and "Layden Sucks." Why? Layden made some great moves this draft. He received orders from his boss (Jim Dolan) to make this team get into the playoffs. His boss. What do you want him to say? No, let's rebuild. He can't, he'd get fired. And everyone I know doesn't like getting fired.
So he took orders from Spree (Get a big man) and Dolan (get us into the playoffs), got McDyess, a guy who could've played the entire 2nd half of last season but didn't want to risk getting injured for a team going nowhere, and could average 22 and 13 for the Knicks. He then picked up the Knicks point for the future in Frank Williams, who was a steal at 25.
Also, what would you want Layden to do? It's impossible to rebuild with this team. With Houston and his $20 million years on the horizon you can't even begin to think about rebuilding. It's worthless if you can't go all-out. So by at least competing he gives the fans competiviteness instead of years of mediocrity and "rebuilding."
So instead of posting things like "Layden Sucks" and "Fire Layden", we (myself included) should all be writing letters to Dolan saying how he should sell the damn team.
