LB recap on WFAN

- size of this roster reminds him of college about telling 3 guys they can't play.

- said training camp has been great. said injuries to james and q to key players and the late trade for curry and davis made it a little difficult. but we're better now in terms of young assets on the team now. he said isiah had a great draft.

- lb's health is alright, nothing has changed and won't affect the way he'll coach. mentally he's ready to go.

- they did so many tests on curry that they gave LB confidence that eddy is fine. he says that his heart is in his mind when he coaches him but he says they made all the assurances they could to say that he's ok. he's a young kid and he's excited to coach him. lb coached david robinson and said he's never seen an athletic as him but curry is about as athletic as anyone he's ever coached. he's had 4 coaches and is young. he's still trying to get better and figure it out. AD has been great with curry. dumars felt curry was the best young big man in the league and tried to figure out ways to get him.

- russo says that the knicks can't win a championship with this team - can LB deal with that? LB says he's been with bad teams before. only team he inherited with a winning record was detroit. he doesn't believe we'll be great overnight but if you look at the roster today based on the team he inherited, we have a heck of a future and we have a ton of assets. as long as he can teach and players try hard, he can handle any type of
result that can happen.

- i think we can get an attitude change here defensively. marbury should be a great defender b/c he has the tools and ariza can be a great defender as well as the kids in the draft. we're on the right track.

- marbury has been great. LB's biggest fear is that he doesn't tie him up to prevent marbury to do the things he can do. he needs to allow marbury to run the team and give him the freedom to score the ball. he's still trying to figure it out. he's worked hard in practice and is playing hard defensively. LB loves the fact that steph would take a big shot but he has to put him in a position to make a play, whether it's from himself or
someone else. he doesn't believe you can win games with outside shots. we need to establish a post presence, then the offense runs better. so the ball should go inside out. lb has to figure out a way to make steph a combo guard - maybe something like detroit with isiah, vinny, and joe. figure out ways to play point and off the ball in others. he doesn't think it will be too complicated.

- lb will play the kids and will play a deep roster. the thing about veterans is totally off the wall. he didn't really inherit a veteran team until detroit and even then, he played tayshaun and okur. about darko, why didn't you play him? 4 reasons - wallace, rasheed, mcdyess, and elden campbell. lb thinks darko will be really good. he's playing for the right coach in flip and he gets to play against quality players in practice.
he has great skills.

- will we see lee and frye play off the bat? the three young kids are going to play. he doesn't know how soon but they are going to play. he think towards the middle of december, they're going to play more and more. he thinks they will be special. they play hard, have been well coached, and understand things that help you win games.

- who starts? LB can't give it out right now. steph will start and everyone has been good. he's going to go with a rotation now that has players that are used to the league and then incorporate the young kids in. key with curry is his foul trouble and he tends to foul when he gets tired so i hope he stays in shape and plays 30 mins a night.

- crawford is trying. he got on him about rebounding and the next night he got 8 boards. he's constantly making an effort on defense. he's done alot of things in making an effort to do better.

- back to curry - he's a great lowpost presence and never really knew the importance about rebounding the ball. and they talk to him everyday about it.

- 13 out of 19 away from msg will be terrible. it's a tough schedule. it's a marathon and not a sprint and we should keep that in mind. we usually get better as the season goes along.

- we got this team and this group and we have to build on the guys we have and figure out ways to get better. we have so many more assets now than we had before.

- he's thrilled to be back home and coaching in this environment.

- if ny fans feel you're getting better and giving effort, then they'll take the results. and usually if those things happened then we'll get better. he thinks it will be ugly early b/c of the schedule, the new people, and the style of play, but they will get better as the season goes on. he thinks the east is pretty strong so it will be tough.

- isiah is an unbelievable competitor and it's fun for LB.

NIce take! Nobody told Curry how important rebounding is before? O< sure they yelled at him, but now he is UNDERSTANDING! Like sweets, the big guys get tired and they foul!

30 min a game from curry is the target? Thats just 63% of the game clock!

Larry is preping us for a tough start! Im ok, this is gonna be fun when it clicks later this season.

I think 30 minutes a game is a good target for the guy. He's 22, the same age as Frye. I think getting him up to 30 EFFICIENT minutes, with big game james logging 10 minutes and Jackie B grabbing 10 minutes, all EFFICIENT minutes, should be good from the Center spot.

I'm thinking from the PF spot, since we are so loaded, we can rest guys from night to night and be able to not suffer from a drop off in play. I'm thinking AD will start, get 15 to 20 minutes a night, Channing 10 minutes, Mo T, 8 minutes, Rose/Lee split the rest.

Curry is going to have to learn how to pace himself, so that he's there late in the games. He can't get in early foul trouble trying to block everything. IF he's up around 30-35mpg, he'll produce and this team will be a lock to make the playoffs.

I'm not worried about the PG situation, as LB said he was impressed by the fact that even tho he had AI play as a SG, last year AI had a great year at the PG and he wants to allow Steph to be able to still score and run the teams offense. He thinks he can do it. He brought up Isaiah, Dumars & V Johnson and how they played as an example of how he could use his guards.

This minutes are fine for Curry, but there's no reason Frye should get less than 20 minutes a night. I agree he'll probably get more like 10, but as Zeke said when Sweetney wasn't playing - This is a lottery team, he's a lottery player, there's no reason he shouldn't be getting minutes.

This is a lottery team
Last year's team was a lottery team; I'd be surprised if this year's team was
