Uh oh. The WNBA is facing a huge PR crisis unless they can stick a lid on many of their openly gay players. I suggest a mandatory dress code--literally, a real "dress" code. Every player must where either a skirt or dress (patterned in a floral design) while on WNBA business. Makeup, especially blush, is mandatory. Hair must be worn below the neckline--absolutely no crew cuts ladies! iPods may be used while traveling but must be updated with the Butch Song Filter Pro v.1.5--any evidence of Melissa Etheridge, KD Lang, or the Indigo Girls results in an immediate 10 game suspension and a public date with Fabio. More details to come.

Coming out with this may not have been a wise decision at this time. It certainly doesn't help the league's image.

Definite PR crisis, I'll agree with that.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

who cares. no one watches the WNBA and if they do, they wont stop watching just cause the players are "gay".

Having an opinion like that is the exact reason why this is a PR crisis for the WNBA.

I think the WNBA is dying anyway. They're not making money.

but I thought it was alright to be gay? at least thats what society tries to portray.

I might be missing the point but how does their sexual preference effect the league?

why is this a bad decsion at this time? And bad decision for whom? I sure it was the BEST decision for Sheryl Swoopes if she indeed was picking the timing.

The same way as the "thug" image affects the NBA. People are uncomfortable with it.

now I know you were trying to be facetious, but try to put some time into being smart too. If you take the time to post on such a personally sensitive subject for some, you had better post something more than the above.

Let me ask you this: would you let your son play for a basketball coach and his assistants and with some players that you knew were homosexual?

It's not about her personal preference in liking women. I don't think many have a problem with her sexual preference... whatever. But, for a league that already has the "bull-dike" image hanging over its head, this is not the kind of thing that will draw in fans. So, yes, this is a bad thing for the league, because one of their top 3 players just made an announcement that goes directly in line with the stereotypes about the league. It has nothing to Sheryl Swoopes and everything to do with the perception. Sometimes keeping something like this from hitting public mainstream is your best option. Swoopes failed to realize her going public affects a lot more than her.

Anyway, the WNBA annoys me, because they make no attempt to put a good product out there. Their announcers refer to layups as "bunnies". They play 40 minute games... if I wanted a 40 minute/2 half game I'd watch college basketball. They put the rims at 10 feet, when most of the women just aren't tall enough to dunk. Their marketing is plain awful, because they have never made an attempt to try to make the league in any way, shape or fashion appealing to men.

Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

i just dont see how this is different then someone being gay in any other sport. Sheryl Swoopes is one person. its not like the whole league is gay. There is no way this has any effect on the league's image

No, it's pretty obvious many in the league are gay--kind of like men's figure skating.

Not really. That's highly debatable. So your answer is yes?

I was assuming your son was still a boy not an adult. Would you let your 10 or 12 year old son play in these conditions?

Yes, I would have total faith they wouldn't do anything to my son. Anything making my son (If I had one of course) would be sexual harrassment. However, at the beginning, I treat gay men the same way I would as if they were straight. If my son feels uncomfortable by how they are acting towards him, I'm taking him off the team. Yet if he's fine, then I'm fine.
