Last year, the Knicks weren't as bad as their record indicated. Don't get me wrong, we were pretty dam terrible but:

We lost 15 (15!) games by 4 points or less. You've got to figure that LB by himself will win 8 of those. That increases our wins to about 41.

In January last year, Crawford went down, essentially making us impotent. During that stretch, we lost 16 games. ugh. Granted, Jamal wasn't the only reason, but he was a BIG part. I would say, if most everyone can remain healthy, those 16 lost games are not acccurate. Let's say a healthy team wins 4 or 5 more of those games (a conservative estimate I'd say). That brings our win total to about 46.

Now, the thing that I think will get us the most wins will be our new and improved defense which is a joy to watch. It's hard to say exactly how this would translate into wins, but I would hazard a guess of about 5 to 6 more wins, just as a reflection of solid basketball playing. That brings our win total to 51.

51 wins.

If everything goes smoothly, not outrageously good or bad, I predict a 48-50 win season. I, for some reason, the stars are aligned in our favor, our wins could indeed climb to the mid 50s. Conversely, if there are injuries, attitudes, stupidity, and playing time bitching, our record could fall like a led zeppelin. It could be as low as 38-40 wins.

So let's hope for calm waters and smooth sailing ahead.

AHOY maties!

nice breakdown of last season. I didnt know we lost 15 games by 4 points or less. I'd say we get 46 to 48 wins. I like the number 51 . Hopefully, no injuries.

I think we'll lose alot of games to inexperience. But I look to see the team grow in the playoffs. Really let people down early, and then really surprise people late. 44 wins but a first round playoff series win. Thatd be hot.

This preseason seems to be a wreck for the league.

Curry and his heart ailment.

Posey's hand injury.

San Antone going 1-7 so far in the preseason despite big effort from many guys (TD double dipping in nearly every game).

Indiana seems full blast and Healthy. Houston too.

GSW lost Ike Diogu - broken finger.

Lakers are missing Bynum - who was supposedly headed to the D leagues, and supposedly Kwame is still a lost man.

Who cares about the Kings anymore, seriously, they are going to fade now that Webber is gone. Peja who?

Portland seems to be a wreck.

Seattle who?

We all know the Hornets are going to fade come the regular season. When Lampe scores in double digits - you know that's a bad omen.

KG is injured - like twice for the preseason...

Sprewell is unsigned!

Houston retired!

Etc. Etc. Etc. (Q is injured)

Im staying with 41 as we are a bit weak if Marbs, Craw, or Curry should be out with an injury.

I also think we have a lot of work ahead where our back court needs to become instictive to playing defense and proper ball movement to our bigs.

Our rookies will make rookie mistakes, and our team identity has yet to be established.

Anything more will be a nice result. IM more concerned we get through our growing pains than win total.

Wow the Kool-Aid is in mass-production in this thread! I think the Knicks are going to be a much better team but they are still a work in progress. You have to figure in rookie mistakes since we are going to be relying on Frye and Ariza(still only 20 yrs old).

The Knicks will be better and I think make the playoffs but I'm still stick to 42-44 wins.
