Imo, the Knicks looked very bad last night. As soon as Dallas picked up the D (this is Dallas, not quite the best defensive team in the league), the Knicks couldn't score and could hardly even get in their offense. No rhythm, no aggressiveness on the offense.

On "D", Dallas shot poorly in the first 1/2, which made it look like the Knicks were shutting them down. Wasn't the case.

I didn't see any signs that we're starting to gel or establish an identity. Closes thing to an identity was the 2nd unit, hustlin, pushing, playing out of control, but making enough good things happen so that the bad didn't look so awful.

Only positive signs I took from the game. AD still has some game left. His "D" and rebounding were solid. Marbury isn't forcing the ball at all (though when he doesn't force, he tends to get passive and it seems like we're not taking advantage of his talent.)

The only people who should be worrying are the players--Larry will make them play the right way or they won't be playing in a Knicks uniform for very long. With Larry and Isiah in charge we will see winning basketball--those guys hate losing more than anyone.

exactly and judging from the way they've played so far nothing has changed so if it continues these core guys will be gone. There's only so much Larry can do with a guy like Crawford who is 6-5 180 and can't shoot for example

Dallas scored well in the 3rd and the Knicks O & D both sucked. Thats not the reason the Knicks had trouble scoring. The Knicks started having trobule scoring when they took Curry out.

The knicks should be struggling now. They are young, with new roles, a new system, and a major philosophy overhaul.

dallas right now has a team that can play great defense when needed. I payed close attention to certain sequences where they shut the Knicks down and were breathing down their throats forcing the Knicks to dribble out on the perimeter and take jumpshots, but I think you're right. Having Curry in there might've made a huge difference. I hope Curry is the answer because if he is not we still need a bigman otherwise we're going to continue being a terrible jumpshooting team. Curry needs to play solid D and rebound otherwise he's going to be more of a liability. I think he will under Larry

I loved the way Jamal played.

Thought Nate rebounded nicely from his sloppy play early.

Curry still needs to get into game shape and continue learning how to pass out of the double team. Starting to see signs of that.

Taylor and Penny have no business on the floor. At all...

Marbury is looking more and more like "one of the guys", meaning he IS gelling with the offense, but he's looking less like our "All Star" and more like a part of whole...as opposed to last year. Not sure what that means for him or for the Knicks, but it's both good and bad. Good that he's working on leadership and intangibles, bad b/c there are about 20 other players making a 1/3 of what he does that could contribute EXACTLY the same way...

So far very impressed that we've stayed with Dallas up until the last few seconds in 2 games. Good stuff.
DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.

That is absolutely positively NO EXCUSE. Curry hasn't been playing a ton of minutes during pre season in the first place. We have 3 penetrators on the team, and we have a couple of other guys who can put the ball in the bucket. So if we're not scoring when Curry is not on the court, it's b/c the guys are playing with their heads up their arses as opposed to losing his presence.

Secondly, this thread is madness. It's the freaking pre season. We've shown glimpses. Guys on the team still have to get in shape. It takes friggin' months and even a year or 2 for a whole new team to gel. Not 4 pre season games. Our guys are young, and Larry admitted that they pretty much don't know how to play and he even said it's going to take time. We don't have Houston, let alone a healthy Houston. It's gonna take a long time. We're going to show flashes of greatness this season, and we're going to show some very very ugly play. It's going to be a roller coaster ride just as I predicted it would be last season, only this year will be called the Hurricane Katrina. Just enjoy the progress we make b/c there will be some.

don't judge Marbury by these preseason games, believe me! there is no reason for him to hog the spotlight in preseason and stun the developement of younger players who need to be developing when Marbury is already an established player. Once the season starts the Knicks will go back to being MArbury's team because that is the way they are going to try to win games

"Secondly, this thread is madness. It's the freaking pre season."

Alan, What's madness is the hype some folks on this board are spouting. We're going to compete for the east. Definitely better the Nets ... concerned more about whether we can run with Miami and Indiana. Channing is the best big man in the draft.

I want to believe this stuff and start to until I watch what we are with my own eyes. And, right now, we're not at all good. Maybe we'll get a lot better, but maybe just a little better.

Yes, it's the preseason, but it's the preseason for other teams too. Philly ran us off the court w/o its 3 best players. And, despite everyone saying it's a dead issue, already put to bed -- Channing is a little soft, imo. He's bigger than he was, but he still seems to be retreating rather going forward, on both O and D, which makes him a foul prone, finesse player.

Don't get me wrong. I'm still hopefull and I like the moves we've made. I just want to make sure we keep a realistic perspective. We've got a long way to go.

I'm not one that said we're competing for the East. I said anywhere between 38- 45 wins. It really can go either way. But regardless, it's going to take some time. If you expect that, then you really don't have reason to be worried. Look at the positives from last night. Frye and Lee continued to play solid. Ariza is showing flashes as well as Nate. Jerome played solid D downlow. Curry, when he's on, is unstoppable in terms of JUST SCORING. He is still pretty bad at everything else. This team just has to continue making progress together. I love the rookies so far. I think I'm pretty much making Frye my favorite player on the team now, followed by Lee.

It's gonna take some time though, so just sit back and enjoy the ride.

I don't "worry" about basketball. There are more important things going on to "worry" about. Basketball is entertainment to me.

I agree that the preseason is the wrong time to start "worrying". Let's let them play a few regular season games and keep things in context - personallyl I want to see the team developing and growing - I'm not as concerned with the win/loss record over the short term.

that's like having a newborn baby and worrying if they are going to college or not.
