he is AWFUL, terrible, he's lost he doesnt know what hes doing. at his size he could just position his bulk the right way.. you can tell hes not even close to 7 feet a hunter went over him with ease hes maybe 6-10 in sneaks. hes got to learn a LOT now this guy can score very well, but to be a great player there is more to the game than scoring. hes got to have his head in the game hes got to rebound use his bulk much better, hes go to play much much smarter on the d his defensive iQ is 0 so its only uphill for him. hes a physical specimen who can score, but he has a lot of liabilities to him. i saw marbury scream at him like 4-5 times tonight, and if marbury is screaming, hes doing something very wrong

hes so key for us, they have to get him playing at a higher level quicker im not worried about the points im worried what he gives up on the D and rebounding--shut some lanes off your size!

well he came out of high school, so, he will have a lot to learn, and he might not know anything until he's 25, and i'm sure he never had a problem getting rebounds when he was the 17 year old kid who was bigger and faster than everybody. the thing abou tit though is that even if he doesn't get it until he turns 25, he'll have been in the league for like 7 years, and he'll only be 25, at which point i'm sure we could get 7 solid defensive years out of him. but whats the likelihood we keep a player on our team for more than three seasons these days?

on another note, steph needs to shut up

Steph was playing solid D tonight. If he's going to lead this team, he needs to get in guy's ear for not playing D.

I agree about Curry though. I just watched Game 4 of the 94 finals for a bit tonight during the half time of the pre-season game - man, Oak and Ewing were defenders.

I agree Briggs. One thing I did notice is that Frye and Lee and even Butler have been playing pretty solid defense, so hopefully they can pick up the slack. I'm impressed by all 3 of those guys. I want to see Butler as part of the rotation.

Oh, about Curry. It's good to see that someone recognizes the manner in which his defense suffers. I know how it is--big trade, big dreams and rightfully so. But one can kinda see how it is with this high schoolers given the world too early. They don't have a clue.

He'll pick it up. He's freakishly athletic and like Frye has the arms of a much taller guy.

yeah, Curry's wingspan is 7'7". that's sick. he should be better on D and rebounding. I'm so glad Herb isn't the REAL head coach this year. I don't think I could take another season of being down 20 for the entire game and getting excited when we cut it to 15!

LOL...

poor Herb gets no love on this forum, geeze it was a pre-season game.

I think good defense can be infectious. If we get more guys playing good D, like the rookies who do come and play defense (THANK GOODNESS!) others may start to catch on.

Let's hope so.

It took you these three games to realize that? Did you never see him play in Chicago?

You said his D was alright.

huh? I remember posting a thread asking people what they expected from him on D because it was a big concern of mine. Maybe you're confusing my comments about Curry with my comments about either Marbury or Q. Or maybe you're confusing me for someone else. You're definitely confused though if you think I ever thought Currry's D was okay

this is why I laugh when people go off about Atlantic titles and winning 50 games. We are a VERY talented team with a lot of good things going for it, and I'm THRILLED that the core of our team is an average of 23-24 years old. That being said these guys have so much to learn.

This is why I say stuff like winning 37 games but getting these guys playing a style and learned to excel at the fundamentals like boxing out, clogging the lane, passing, not dribbling with your head down into traffic, knowing when to but the ball on the floor.

There's so much fundamentally that we simply suck at and its going to take time to get it right. Maybe a year, maybe more, but the talent and pieces are there.

This is why the grass is always greener. This guy might decide he never wants to play the D.

Sure, let him get in shape first.

Isiah and Larry will make him play defense even if it kills him!

Pun intended!

steph is pretty boneheaded on d, he was over aggressive for the most part, and he got burned as a result. simple things like shading a guy to his off hand were apparantly lost on our boys

oh and can i also join you in commending the likes of the oak tree and patrick? i'd also like to add anthony mason to that group. those three were the most intimidating bunch i'd ever seen on a basketball court.

Starbury looks like he's willing to play d, he'll play it better as he plays it more.

i was thinking the same thing. i veiw brown's tenure to be reminiscent of his tenure in philly. they struggled the first couple of seasons and then flourished to make the finals. however, i think this team is more talented than that philly team and i think we will be in the playoff hunt. but 50 wins this year ain't happening. we have to learn how to play well together and know how to win. the only people on our team that knows that are rose and davis. no one else. i say around 41-43 wins. next year will be our time to shine.

Yeah seriously, Curry's effort, or lack thereof, on the defensive side has always been a problem.
