Heard it on WFAN. It's official. Allan is retiring. It's not as if we didn't see this coming.

This is very good for the Knicks. I even said it a year and a half ago that this comeback was just to milk the money from this contract. Allan is a smart man.

I hardly post but I think Allan is doing a good thing here. This is just a class act.

I hate to bring this up but how does it affect the Salary Cap.

I have a lot of appreciation for Houston. Aside from Ewing he was as important as any Knick in the last 10 years. He hit big shots, he was an all star and he always played hard. He did his best to get back but his body simply failed him. I truly hope he is not remembered for saying YES to the "the contract" and is remembered for being one of the league's deadly sharp shooters and good guys.

Fishmike, I think you hit it right on the head. We need to appreciate him as the player. Not as someone who was offered $100 mil. How many of us on this forum would turn down that amount of money??

And not to mention one of the biggest one dimensional players in the NBA as well.

As I have said, Dolan had a plan when JYD was waived, which I failed to give him credit for at the time.

as great as his game 5 floater in the lane was against the Heat, my favorite Houston moment was when he torched Reggie Miller time and time again down the floor in the 4th qtr of game 5 which would give the Knicks a 3-2 lead en route to winning game 6 at the Garden. For all times Reggie killed us seeing Houston call for the ball and just drill shot after shot in Reggie's face was better than sex.

His greatness shined in the 1999 season, but then it went all downhill from there. From 1996 - 2000 he was in the prime of his career in my opinion.

We'll miss him and all the good memories. Maybe he can still work with the Knicks in some limited role like JYD is doing now.

This now opens a roster spot, increasing the chance that Barnes gets picked up.

I wouldn't rule out Houston staying with the organization for some sort of Knicks job. Unless of course if you're supersticious, then having Allan around would mean that we're staying with the old Knicks and it's holding us back to being the NEW Knicks...

Im happy he decided to retire but I still feel really sad right now....Houston WAS my favorite player, a silky-smooth jumper, a class act on and off the court, but it was his time to go....BEST OF LUCK ALLAN
