I have a feeling that Marb will not be our Captain this season. Look for Rose and someone else to assume that role...

The Knicks final training camp workout at the College of Charleston is slated for Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. ... New York's first preseason contest is Saturday against New Jersey in Bridgeport, CT (Arena at Harbor Yard) ... tipoff is 7:30 p.m. ... Coach Larry Brown expects the team to elect captains in the near future.
"I've had captains before," said Brown. "I don't what to name them, I'd rather have the guys vote on them.
I'd feel more comfortable doing that. The one nice thing is we're going to be together for a while through training camp and they'll figure out who deserves that."

This is interesting. If the guys vote and don't pick Marbs, that'll be pretty revealing.

He's the biggest star, the point guard/quarterback, the self-appointed leader who says things like he should be judged on W's and L's, not stats. Seems like he thinks he should be captain. If the guys don't choose him, it will tell me that there's something to the noise about him being difficult and unpopular in the locker room. You read stuff like that, but never know what to believe. This'll put it to the test.

I think rose might be the logical choice. I wonder if Marbs has played with a good captain before? KG was too young, and I don't think anyone in NJ or PHX had the presence. Leadership must be taught to marbs. Being the best player is not the only grounds for leadership.

Rose say for a year or so, then Marbs if he is ready to take it on.

Since our boys will have to vote on the matter, Marb will have a pretty good chance to be a Captain. Ariza, Crawff, Frye, Lee, and Q will all vote for Marb, because those boys will want to retain a good rapport with the PG.

When they vote for Marbury and whoever else, it'll be good to see LB coach them on leadership. LB has already gone on record to say that Stephon has leadership skills, so maybe he'll help make Stephon into one of the leaders we need.

Since we'll be having multiple captains, my guess is that at least one other captain will be a frontcourt player...
Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

Antonio Davis would make a good captain, if he'd ever show up

Maybe losing the "C" on his jersey

Will be the last straw for Allan.

Kinda sad, actually.

Let it be known: I believe in the Knicks this year-- deep into the playoffs, I swear to you my brothers...

We do have a couple of guys that are capable of leading...Marb (needs help, but can lead), Rose, Penny, Houston, and one of the young guys (Frye) can also be a leader. I do believe that Frye will be our leader for the future. If you ever listen to him talk, you will see what I am talking about. He has all of the right traits to be a good leader.

My gut feeling is that with such a young squad they might go for the tri-captian approach look for Q-rich, Starbury, and Malik(the warrior)Rose to be named captians

I think guys are either natural born leaders or not- its not terrible if marbury isn't a 'leader'- he can still buy into the team concept and try to do is role to make other players better by getting them the passes they need and getting in sync with them

To me, a leader is the guy that pushes his teammates to win, not accept loosing. That doesn't have to be Marbury- he could be Rose, Q or anyone.

Maybe everyone should stop trying to make Marbury a leader, and just make him a 'team' player- albeit, a team player who is a significant part of the team.

Usually in basketball the point guard is the leader because he controlling the ball. I don't think Isiah would want Steph to accept not leading the team and neither will he.

Marb can become a leader with proper coaching. One of the reason why Marb has yet to be successful in the league is because he wasn't coached early on about how to maximize his talent, but Brown will definitely help him with that.

I see Rose being named Capt, not Marbury..

Marbury has no leadership skills and it's been nearly 10 yrs in the league already..

Besides Malik, Brown could name Crawford too..

there is a difference between being a leader of the team and leading the team's offense.

As PG, of course, Marbury is leading the teams offense.

That is different than inspiring better play.

I agree. I also think Nate is a definate future leader of this team. If you ever watched Nate while he was at Washington he was the clear-cut leader of that team, not only because he was the best player but because he was always vocal and the rest of the guys trusted him. In college, guys like himself and the Daniel Ewings of the world are extremely important to each college team and especially the coach becuase the coach needs guys that he can trust be a "coach" on the court. Frye and Nate both were in this category in college and I think they will both make excellent captains in the very near future.
